ᐅ Are there Ikea PLATSA units available with built-in lighting?

Labe64Hello everyone,
I am planning to get the Platsa furniture system from Ikea because it is quite flexible and modular. However, I have a question: Does Ikea offer Platsa furniture with built-in lighting, meaning cabinets or shelves that come factory-equipped with lights? So far, I have only read about buying LED strips or other lighting modules separately, but I am specifically interested in an integrated lighting effect without additional DIY work.
Does anyone have experience with Ikea’s current offerings or know if Platsa furniture is available with built-in lighting? If so, what exactly does that look like – is the lighting permanently installed or more of an add-on? I would prefer not to rely on LED strips that need to be installed by myself, as a factory-installed solution seems more practical and, especially, cleaner. Thanks in advance for any helpful feedback!

Hello Labe64,
to answer your question more thoroughly: Ikea does not offer furniture with pre-installed lighting for PLATSA. However, there is a separate "Omlopp" LED lighting system designed specifically for integration into cabinets like PLATSA.
These light strips can be easily installed, often with adhesive tape, and are very flexible. Although the lighting is added afterwards, the system is clean and intended for this purpose.
I also recommend checking the Ikea planner or directly in the store for combination options. This is not a permanently built-in lighting solution, but it can look very professional visually.

Ikea does not actually offer furniture with built-in lighting for PLATSA.I can confirm exactly that. For anyone who still wants integrated lighting, I have put together a brief overview:
- Ikea sells separate LED strips and light modules that can be easily mounted on PLATSA furniture.
- There are different options, such as mains-powered or battery-operated strips.
- Installation is usually done with clips or adhesive tape, allowing clean attachment.
- However, there is no factory-installed lighting in the PLATSA range, as the focus is on flexibility and customization.
It is important to consider how the power supply will be managed during planning — whether there is a nearby outlet or if a battery-powered model is preferred. Also, pay attention to cable management to avoid an untidy appearance.
If anyone has problems with installation or ideas for hiding cables, I’m happy to offer advice.
As an addition: Although Ikea does not offer PLATSA furniture with integrated lighting, the "OMLOPP" system can be easily installed in these modules, as it is specifically designed for this type of furniture.
For those looking for a neat solution, alternative LED strips from third-party manufacturers can also be used, which are slimmer and brighter if the Ikea modules do not meet their requirements. It is important to ensure compatible power supply and appropriate installation locations.
For those who are less experienced with DIY, battery-powered lighting modules that do not require hardwiring and can be used flexibly are recommended.

It is important to pay attention to proper power supply and installation locations.I agree with that. At first, I was a bit hesitant about lighting solutions because I’m not very technically skilled. Still, I went ahead and installed some "OMLOPP" strips on PLATSA cabinets.
The result is really satisfying and helped to overcome my concerns. You don’t need to be afraid to run the cables a bit, and the illusion of built-in lighting works perfectly. Maybe experiences like this can also encourage others who feel unsure.
