Hello everyone,
I am planning to secure several IKEA Malm dressers in my bedroom on laminate flooring because they seem a bit unstable to me. I am particularly interested in how to fasten these dressers as securely and safely as possible without damaging the laminate or leaving unpleasant marks. Are there clever methods or special fixing materials suitable for Malm dressers on laminate that can also handle heavier loads?
It would also be important for me to know whether securing to the wall alone is sufficient or if it makes sense to additionally fix the dresser directly to the floor. I look forward to any tips and experiences!

Hello liruto,
First of all, for safety reasons: Malm dressers are known to be prone to tipping, especially when the upper drawers are fully loaded. Therefore, securing them to the wall is the top priority. IKEA usually includes mounting hardware for this purpose, which you should use.
If you have laminate flooring and are concerned about adhesive residue, I recommend the following:
1. Install the wall anchor as instructed – this provides stability and prevents tipping.
2. To prevent slipping on laminate, you can stick non-slip pads under the dresser’s feet. These can be removed without leaving any residue and protect the floor.
3. I would only recommend screwing the furniture directly to the floor if you are able to tolerate damage to the laminate or have a solid subfloor. Otherwise, it’s better not to.
In summary: wall anchoring plus non-slip pads are usually completely sufficient.
I hope this helps you!

Hello liruto,
you asked a very good question about safely securing Malm dressers on laminate flooring. Here is a detailed overview:
Malm dressers are solid, but they tend to tip over, especially with uneven loading. The wall anchoring kit included by IKEA is therefore very important.
You cannot simply screw through laminate flooring, as this would damage the floor and is difficult to fix. Instead, I recommend:
- Installing wall anchors so the dresser is securely fixed to the wall.
- To prevent slipping, equip the furniture feet with non-slip rubber pads that can be easily stuck on and removed later without leaving any residue.
- Optionally, anti-tip brackets can be used, which are screwed over the dresser to the wall at the back.
Attaching the dresser directly to the floor is generally not necessary and involves more risks than benefits, especially on laminate.
If you have any questions about installing the included anchoring kit, I’m happy to guide you step by step. 🙂
I hope my tips help you further.

Install wall anchors as planned – this provides stability and prevents tipping. That sounds very reasonable. I was previously concerned that this might not create a secure connection, but if IKEA specifies it this way, it should be sufficient.
What I’m still curious about: How deep should the screws be driven into the wall, and what if you have a drywall (plasterboard) wall? Can you still use this type of fastening, or should you consider an alternative solution?

Thanks for your answers so far!
