lamabenGood morning everyone,
I have a somewhat unusual question that might be interesting for some of you: Are there any detailed guides on how to assemble the Ikea Besta system without using the original IKEA instructions?
I ask because I feel that while the IKEA instructions usually work, they often lack detail on certain issues – for example, the correct way to install drawer slides or hangings on adaptable modules.
If such guides exist, they were probably created by people who have assembled the Besta system multiple times and optimized the process in practice. Maybe with tips on common pitfalls, which tools are really necessary, or even advice on how to avoid typical mistakes.
My goal is to put the system together in a way that is especially stable and durable, possibly even including small improvements beyond the standard IKEA instructions.
Does anyone here have experience with alternative guides, templates, or step-by-step explanations that work reliably without the official IKEA documentation?
I look forward to your answers and tips!

Hello,
to address the question of whether there are instructions to assemble the IKEA Besta without the original manual: Generally, the Besta is quite intuitive to assemble due to its modular design. However, the official instructions are usually quite minimal, and typical issues often arise, especially with the drawers and mounting hardware.
Some time ago, I created my own step-by-step guide, which I will briefly summarize:
- Preparation: Sort all parts by type and carefully check the carcasses for fit before assembling.
- Drawer runners: It is important to align the sliding rails perfectly horizontally; otherwise, the drawer may stick later on.
- Connecting the modules: Use the original connector fittings, but take your time to align them properly – this greatly affects stability.
- Back panel: This is often overlooked in some modules, but it provides crucial lateral stability.
I would also like to ask if your project has any special characteristics – such as altered dimensions, additional modifications, or similar? Then I could assist more specifically.
I am not aware of any completely standalone manual without reference to the original instructions, but many furniture enthusiasts share their own tutorials in forums. If you are interested, I can provide a detailed PDF with the mentioned steps and images.

Regarding your question about whether there are assembly instructions for the Besta that do not rely on IKEA documents: most instructions available online are either directly based on the IKEA manuals or supplement the information they provide.
The main advantage of the original IKEA instructions is their coordinated visuals and clear identification of the parts. Without them, assembly becomes significantly more complicated, especially for someone without prior experience.
Therefore, I recommend using the IKEA manual at least as a foundation and additionally looking for user reports that offer valuable practical tips.
Also important:
- Make sure to use all screws and fasteners correctly – the packaging is usually well labeled.
- Use angle tools and spirit levels as needed to ensure stability.
This will ensure a successful assembly even without a completely new set of instructions.

Of course, there isn't really a completely new guide without the IKEA manual.
My advice: read the IKEA instructions while assembling the furniture at the same time.
Additionally, check out YouTube, where you can find many videos that show step-by-step what needs to be done.
With that, you can manage well even without printed instructions.

Because a completely new, independent manual might encourage customers to take more initiative and perhaps even develop their own improvements.

I would be interested to know if anyone in the community has ever used a detailed, alternatively created manual with specific improvements compared to the IKEA version. Or if DIY tips could be collected focusing on durable optimizations.
Maybe @lamaben could provide more information on how detailed the instructions should be and if there are particular issues during assembly that are especially challenging?

I’m curious if anyone in the community has ever used a detailed, alternative guide that includes specific improvements compared to the IKEA version.Thank you for this question; it perfectly addresses the core of my concern. I would appreciate if the guide or tutorial also covers the following points:
- Advanced tips for aligning the different modules, as the corner joints often don’t fit tightly.
- Advice on stabilization, such as adding extra screws or brackets, without compromising the design.
- Details on installing drawer slides, since I’ve seen several types that require different mounting methods.
- Possible alternatives to the IKEA-specific connectors, because I want to replace some parts with more durable options.
My goal is to bring the whole project to a professional level, as I plan to use the Besta system as a long-term storage solution.
I would also be willing to provide feedback if someone puts such a guide together.
