Hello everyone,

I am specifically looking for advice on how to care for Ikea Pax high-gloss fronts to prevent scratches as much as possible. The surface is very delicate, and I would especially like to know which cleaning products and methods are effective without damaging the high-gloss finish. It would be great if you could also share your experiences with specific products or home remedies and maybe point out common mistakes to avoid, such as using rough cloths or inappropriate sprays. Additionally, I am interested in the best way to remove fingerprints without scratching the surface, as I have often had trouble with this. Thank you in advance for your detailed recommendations!

I can well understand how annoying it is when you put in effort and still see small scratches on the beautiful high-gloss surfaces.

What has helped me is using very soft microfiber cloths – truly the finest ones that have almost no abrasive effect. I also avoid harsh cleaners. Often, a slightly damp cloth with a bit of dish soap is enough, but carefully wrung out so that not too much water gets on the surfaces.

That’s exactly the most important point: don’t apply too much pressure. Sometimes you feel the need to scrub harder, but especially with these Ikea finishes, the surface quickly becomes dull or scratched as a result.

Have you already tried certain cleaners that caused problems?

Dish soap with lukewarm water, a soft microfiber cloth, no abrasive cleaners. Simply wipe off fingerprints immediately, so they do not need to be rubbed in.

Hello,

I’m happy to help, as I have extensive experience working with high-gloss fronts myself. It’s important to note that Ikea usually uses an acrylic or film coating on their Pax fronts, which is prone to scratching. Here are my tips:

- Use only clean, dust-free microfiber cloths to avoid rubbing dust particles into the surface.
- Slightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild soap solution—never spray directly onto the furniture.
- Avoid any cleaners containing alcohol or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the surface over time.
- Fingerprints can be effectively removed using distilled water and a freshly washed microfiber cloth.

This works best if you wipe gently rather than pressing hard. If fingerprints are stubborn, you can help with a very mild dish soap, but use it sparingly.

If you want, I can also provide you with a step-by-step cleaning routine.

In addition to the previous tips:

I recommend washing the microfiber cloth before first use to remove any manufacturing residues.

Also, never clean the fronts with abrasive cleaners or sponges.

To prevent fingerprints, a special polish for high-gloss surfaces can be used, which creates a light protective film – but only if you are sure that this polish is suitable for the material type.

Otherwise: use little water, apply light pressure, maintain a routine, and the fronts will look like new for longer.

Regarding the best care for Ikea Pax high-gloss fronts to prevent scratches, the following can be summarized:

- Mechanical stress is the main cause of scratches; therefore, careful handling and choosing the right cleaning tools are essential.
- Microfiber cloths with a fiber density of at least 300 GSM (grams per square meter) should be used, as they clean very gently.
- Cleaners should be pH-neutral, ideally special furniture cleaners designed for high-gloss surfaces.
- Cleaning should be done by wiping lightly without vigorous rubbing to avoid micro-scratches.
- Fingerprints often consist of grease and dirt; for removal, a mixture of demineralized water and a few drops of mild, neutral dishwashing detergent is recommended.

Please avoid harsh, alcohol-based, or solvent-containing products as well as abrasive sponges or cloths. The use of wax polish is controversial; it is often not suitable for foil-coated surfaces.

These are the key facts I have extracted from literature and product tests.
