Hello everyone,

I recently got an IKEA KALLAX shelving unit with doors to use as storage in my living room. However, I noticed that the doors do not align flush with the handles – they slightly protrude, which makes the overall appearance look a bit untidy. What bothers me most is that the handles don’t feel quite right to use, and the doors sometimes appear slightly crooked.

My question is: Are there any proven adjustment methods to align the KALLAX doors flush with the handles? Maybe there is a specific procedure, tips, or tools I could use to fine-tune the doors more precisely. I would really appreciate any advice on how to fix this issue without damaging the doors or the furniture unit.

Thanks in advance!

The KALLAX doors can usually be adjusted at the hinges. IKEA often uses concealed cup hinges that have adjustment screws for height, side, and depth settings.

The procedure is as follows: 1. Open the door slightly, 2. turn the screws on the hinge until the door sits flush, 3. make several small adjustments if necessary.

It is important not to overtighten or strip the screws, as this can damage the hinge.

To address the issue accurately from a technical perspective, I recommend the following:

1. First, check the alignment of the doors when closed. Are they protruding or hanging unevenly on one side?

2. IKEA typically uses clip hinges with three-way adjustment on the KALLAX doors:
- Lateral adjustment (usually via the middle screw on the hinge) affects the horizontal offset.
- Height adjustment (usually screws on the mounting plate) adjusts the vertical position.
- Depth adjustment allows you to move the door closer to or further from the cabinet front.

3. Use a small Phillips screwdriver or ideally a Torx driver, if available.

4. Apply adjustments on the side where the door is protruding, turning slowly and preferably in small increments multiple times.

A steady and smooth camera can be helpful here if you have a second person assisting with the adjustment.

If the handles themselves are not sitting properly, be sure to check whether the handle screws are tightened or if the holes are slightly misaligned, as this can also affect the overall impression.

To adjust, turn the middle screw on the hinge to better align the door laterally. Then check the height and depth settings.

That's brilliant, being able to adjust the doors simply by tweaking the hinges! 🙂 I had the same issue and was able to fix it really easily this way. Just tighten or loosen the screws a bit, and everything fits perfectly!

If the doors are not flush, check the hinges and adjust the screws. Close the door with gentle pressure, then turn the screws.
