ᐅ KALLAX doors not flush with handles – any adjustment options?

Hello everyone,

I recently got an IKEA KALLAX shelving unit with doors to use as storage in my living room. However, I noticed that the doors do not align flush with the handles – they slightly protrude, which makes the overall appearance look a bit untidy. What bothers me most is that the handles don’t feel quite right to use, and the doors sometimes appear slightly crooked.

My question is: Are there any proven adjustment methods to align the KALLAX doors flush with the handles? Maybe there is a specific procedure, tips, or tools I could use to fine-tune the doors more precisely. I would really appreciate any advice on how to fix this issue without damaging the doors or the furniture unit.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, I can only add: A little patience really helps here! 🙂 Sometimes it takes several small adjustments to align the doors perfectly. With a small screwdriver, this can be done quickly – almost like playing a puzzle with furniture.

IKEA usually uses clip hinges with triple adjustment on the KALLAX doors

Thank you for the detailed explanation, that already confirms my suspicion that the issue is related to the hinge adjustment options. So far, I have only tried adjusting the side screw, but now I will also try the height and depth adjustments.

One more question: Is it possible that some doors come slightly warped from the factory? If so, how can this be fixed without putting too much strain on the hinge?

A quick note about the handles: they are firmly attached on my doors; it actually seems like the doors themselves close slightly unevenly.

Slight warping can occur since the doors are made from a thin MDF-like material. Minor bending is possible.

Usually, this cannot be fixed without removing the door or a significant effort. The goal is to adjust the hinges as precisely as possible to minimize visual distraction.

A true warp can generally only be corrected by replacing the affected door.

I would like to add: Before making any adjustments, ensure that the cabinet is standing straight and the floor is level. An uneven base can significantly affect the alignment of the doors.

Anyone who has a small tape measure or a spirit level should use them before screwing on the door.

One idea:

1. Remove the door and gently check if it can be corrected by carefully bending it. But be careful, the material is delicate.

2. If that doesn’t work, lay the door flat on an even surface with minimal pressure, allowing any warping to partially even out.

3. In rare cases, silicone or rubber buffers can be placed at specific hinge points to compensate for small gaps.

4. If the problem persists, replacing the door is recommended, since repeated attempts to fix it can damage the hinge.

It might also be a good idea to contact IKEA support to see if there are replacement parts available for warped doors on the KALLAX system.

My tip: Don’t fully loosen or over-tighten the screws at once. It’s better to turn them in small increments and test in between. Sometimes it helps to briefly remove the door and then put it back in place, which allows for a more precise adjustment.
