Hello everyone,

I’m planning to get the IKEA Platsa system and want to secure it as safely and permanently as possible. I’m especially interested in which mounting methods work best for IKEA Platsa, particularly when fixing the modules to the wall.

I’ve read that there are different options, such as anchors and screws, as well as special wall brackets from IKEA. Since the system is modular, the correct fastening seems crucial for stability and safety.

I’m looking forward to your recommendations and experiences, especially if anyone has directly compared different options. Are there any tips regarding wall materials or weight categories that I should consider?

Thanks in advance!

For wall mounting Platsa, I always use the original IKEA wall brackets together with suitable anchors. For concrete walls, heavy-duty anchors are best, while for drywall panels, use special drywall anchors. Screws should be at least 5 mm (0.2 inches) in diameter.

The optimal installation of IKEA Platsa largely depends on the wall material.

- For solid masonry, I recommend robust metal expansion anchors or chemical anchors with appropriate screws to securely support the load.
- For drywall (plasterboard) walls, special cavity anchors such as toggle bolts or snap toggles are essential. The original IKEA wall fixtures are functional but cannot support significant weight without proper anchors.

A combination of wall anchors and the connection mechanism between individual Platsa units provides the best stability and prevents tilting and pulling forces.

Additionally, the total weight of the mounted units and their contents should be considered to avoid overloading.

Hello, I would like to provide a brief overview of the mounting methods for IKEA Platsa:

1. Original wall mounts from IKEA: These include metal brackets that are screwed into the wall. It is important to choose the appropriate screws and anchors depending on the wall material.

2. Types of anchors:
- Concrete/masonry: heavy-duty anchors (nylon or metal)
- Drywall/plasterboard: cavity anchors (such as toggle bolts)
- Wood: wood screws or direct fastening into load-bearing elements

3. Alternative mounting methods:
- Mounting on rail systems (for heavy loads)
- Using multiple brackets to distribute the load

Common mistakes:
- Using the wrong type of anchor for the wall material
- Neglecting load calculations, especially for tall, heavy configurations

My advice: Before installation, check the wall type and then obtain the correct anchors and screws accordingly. During assembly, ensure the system is securely fixed at multiple points.

I can only agree! Even more important than the screw is the right wall plug; otherwise, it will be unstable. 😅

I mounted my Platsa on an old drywall and initially failed miserably with cheap plugs. Since then, I’ve been using sturdy toggle bolts, which hold perfectly and make the whole construction feel very stable.

Also: if you like to experiment, you can additionally connect the modules to each other with screws. This makes it less likely to tip over or shift.

For everyone who wants it to be as timeless as Ikea design: better to fix it carefully, not just quickly!

Those who attach modules to drywall should definitely use appropriate hollow wall anchors. Regular anchors tend to lose their grip quickly. For concrete, a nylon expansion anchor is best, securely screwed in from the front.
