Hello everyone,

I would like to know: Are there child-friendly IKEA Platsa extensions?

I am looking for extensions or additional modules for the IKEA Platsa system that are specifically designed to meet the needs of families with young children. I am thinking of features like rounded edges, extended storage options, or possibly elements that make the furniture safer for children or encourage play without limiting functionality. If anyone has practical experience with particularly child-friendly extensions or even modified solutions, I would be very grateful for any tips or suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

To my knowledge, IKEA does not offer any official Platsa extensions specifically designed to be child-friendly.

However, you can improve safety by using soft-close hinges and edge protectors. Rounded edge trims also help. Just look for Platsa accessories at IKEA.

Hello Erdal9,

I would like to answer your question in more detail because the topic of child-friendliness really has many aspects.

On the one hand, the IKEA Platsa modules themselves are quite flexible. Although there are no specific "child-friendly" extensions, some practical solutions can be implemented:

- Use child-safe locks so that young children cannot easily open drawers. IKEA offers, for example, magnetic child locks that can also be easily installed on Platsa units.

- For more stability and reduced risk of accidents, I recommend securely fixing the Platsa shelves to the wall. This is especially important when children are around.

- To protect edges and corners, you can use soft edge protectors that are both visually discreet and safe.

- For playful additions, you can place small benches or modular boxes next to Platsa to make the room more child-friendly.

I hope this gives you a clearer picture. If you like, I can explain in more detail where to get these locks cheaply and how to install them easily.

I can confirm this from personal experience. My daughter is at the age where she explores everything and sometimes bumps into furniture. Since we installed these soft edges on our Platsa cabinet, it has been a great relief.

That’s correct; I also searched extensively and only found modular boxes or organizers that can be assembled to suit your needs. For parents who like to do some DIY, it’s also worthwhile to install shelves lower down so children can reach toys more easily without having to climb.

When it comes to children’s furniture, stability is always important, especially with systems that can be extended flexibly. Wall mounting must never be overlooked.
