Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an IKEA Platsa wardrobe system and am wondering how it can be modified easily and effectively without completely changing the original construction. I am especially interested in flexible options to customize the wardrobe setup according to changing room conditions or personal usage preferences. What simple methods or accessories are available to enhance the PLATSA system visually or functionally without spending unnecessary time or money?

I would also appreciate tips for modifications that don’t require advanced DIY skills but can be done with some patience and basic tools. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

The easiest way is to mix module sizes and replace individual elements.

- Use doors with glass inserts for a lighter appearance
- Use drawers instead of doors
- Add color accents through paint or vinyl wraps

This does not cost much and significantly changes the overall look.

For this exact question, I recommend measuring the individual PLATSA modules and then selectively reassembling the main components. PLATSA offers widths of 40cm (15.7 inches) and 60cm (23.6 inches) as well as variable heights, such as 35cm (13.8 inches) and 64cm (25.2 inches). This way, you can adjust the cabinet precisely to your room dimensions by adding or removing elements.

For the redesign, I would also suggest the following steps:

- First, check if the existing back panels can be replaced with others (e.g., sliding doors instead of an open back), which often looks more polished and provides dust protection.
- Then consider whether you want to replace shelves with custom-cut versions to optimize interior usage.
- Regarding the fronts: IKEA offers various optional doors and drawers, and third-party suppliers also provide adhesive films and alternative handles that can be easily attached or screwed on.

Important: If you require higher load capacity, pay attention to reinforcements, especially for taller units. In terms of tools, you only need a cordless drill, a spirit level, and possibly clamps.

One more question for you: What specific changes to the room layout are you planning? What do you want to use the system for after the redesign?

To address that, a very simple and flexible way to redesign PLATSA is actually by replacing the fronts and adding internal fittings that perfectly match your needs. For example, if you want more storage space for clothing, you could:

- Install telescopic rails for pull-out clothes rails
- Use storage boxes or inserts for accessories
- Add LED lighting for better visibility

All of this can be done relatively easily yourself if you are patient and proceed step by step. For surfaces, you can use furniture stickers, which come in many designs and can also be removed later.

If making structural changes to the entire system is too demanding, I recommend starting with small details — these often make the biggest difference without increasing the effort.
