Lewulfil3326 May 2023 17:12Hello everyone, I recently assembled some IKEA Platsa cabinets, which are supposed to be quite flexible and modular. However, I am experiencing problems with several doors warping, causing them not to close properly. The warping shows itself in the doors being crooked at the edges or the gaps being uneven. I have already checked that all screws are tight and the hinges are correctly adjusted, but there has been little improvement.
My specific question is: What can I do if the doors on IKEA Platsa furniture have warped? Are there special adjustment options, tricks, or possibly materials I should replace? Could it also be due to the load or humid indoor air? I look forward to your experiences and helpful advice!

For warped doors on IKEA Platsa units, there are some clear approaches to solving the problem. First, it is important to adjust the hinges precisely, as these are adjustable on Platsa doors and often cause the door to fit incorrectly.
I would recommend the following steps:
- Check and tighten all screws on doors and hinges
- Adjust the hinges along three axes:
- Horizontal adjustment (to control the gap width)
- Vertical adjustment (to align the height of the door surface)
- Depth adjustment (to set the door flush with the cabinet frame)
- Check if the doors have swollen due to external factors such as moisture
If the surface is warped, replacement is often the only solution. Plastic or lacquered surfaces tend to deform with moisture or temperature variations.
In short: adjust very carefully, check the screws, and if that’s not enough, replace the door—especially if it is warped. A substructure with Rikta panels or additional reinforcement can help minimize warping in the future.

Hello Lewulfil33, interesting question! I’d like to explain a bit more in detail since the issue with Platsa furniture is actually a bit more complex than it seems at first glance.
First, it’s important to understand that Platsa is essentially a modular system with relatively thin door fronts made from MDF with foil or lacquered surfaces. These materials are sensitive to environmental factors.
What technically happens with warped doors?
- The MDF panels expand with humidity or shrink when dry
- Tensions in the foil can cause it to peel or wrinkle in some areas
- Uneven stress from hinges or misalignment during assembly
My approach to troubleshooting would be:
1. Remove the doors to inspect them more closely
2. Completely loosen and readjust the hinges, making sure they sit evenly
3. Check if the doors are exposed to moisture or temperature fluctuations at their installed location
4. Rearrange objects or items inside the cabinets to minimize stress on the door
5. If available, replace hinges with alternatives that allow for better adjustment
In the end, ordering a replacement door front or smoothing the edges might help, but that should really be a last resort.
One question: Are the doors warped at the bottom or top area? That often helps with the diagnosis.

A quick question: Are the doors warped at the bottom or the top? That often helps with the diagnosis.Thank you, Surela, that’s a good question. I actually notice on two doors that the top area is slightly bowed outward, while the other edges fit properly. It looks as if the door has swollen at the top or the material there is no longer flat. Some of the other doors are warped more sideways.
I’ve adjusted the hinges a little with a multitool, but the effect was minimal. My environment is a normally heated living space with humidity around 40-50%. I don’t really think the moisture has such a strong impact. The doors have been installed for about 6 weeks now. Due to the modular construction, it’s easy to remove the doors, which is convenient for me.
Are there any special tools that make adjustment easier? Or is it better to replace the door panel if only one area is warped? Thanks again for the advice so far.

I adjusted the hinges slightly with a multitool, but the result was minimal.Hello, regarding the adjustment of Platsa doors: IKEA hinges are actually quite precise, but their adjustment often requires special hex keys (usually around 3 or 4 mm (0.12 or 0.16 inches)) or a screwdriver with the appropriate bits, not a multitool with imprecise heads. Overly rough adjustment can damage the hinges or prevent fine tuning.
I also recommend a systematic approach: first correct the horizontal position, then the vertical, and finally the depth.
If the upper part of your door slightly protrudes, this can also indicate a twisted frame. In such cases, replacing the door front is often the only solution once adjustment options have been exhausted.
My advice: try adjusting again carefully with the right tools and observe whether the problem improves. If warping persists, IKEA can supply replacement parts that you can relatively easily install yourself.
