Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into wall mounting options for the IKEA Platsa system and wanted to ask the community: What types of brackets and wall mounting solutions are available specifically for the IKEA Platsa system?

I’m interested in knowing which original as well as alternative fasteners are suitable to secure the modules safely and firmly to the wall. Are there any specially designed brackets from IKEA itself, or are there third-party options?

Additionally, I’m curious if there are any special considerations during installation, for example related to the construction of the Platsa units or different wall types (drywall, concrete, etc.). Perhaps someone has experience or tips on how to ensure a safe and durable mounting.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hi, IKEA offers special wall mounts for Platsa that attach directly to the modules. They are called "Platsa wall mounts" and are available in the IKEA range. Alternatively, standard heavy-duty brackets can also be used. It is important that the wall plugs and screws are suitable for the wall.

Hello kenneo,

Here is a brief overview of the mounting options for Platsa:

- IKEA Platsa Wall Mounting: IKEA provides its own metal brackets that can be attached to the top and bottom of the units. These are specifically designed for Platsa and ensure optimal stability.

- Universal brackets and heavy-duty anchors: If you need custom solutions, you can also use sturdy brackets, but make sure they can handle the load.

- Consider the mounting materials: The type of wall (drywall, concrete, or wood) determines the choice of anchors. Drywall requires special hollow-wall anchors.

- Installation tip: Before attaching, you may want to partially assemble the units, as the brackets are usually mounted on the sides.

Hope this helps!

Hey kenneo,

Regarding wall mounting for Platsa: There are the classic IKEA Platsa wall mounts, which work quite well. Additionally, depending on your wall type, I recommend being a bit more flexible—for example, using good cavity anchors in drywall is important.

In the end, I was also really glad that I bought a few universal brackets as well—extra security never hurts 😉

And yes, when it comes to installation effort: it’s better to be careful and patient, then the shelf will be rock solid!

Hello everyone!

I completely agree with KNUTGI – the original Platsa wall brackets are really practical and fit perfectly. I got a few extra brackets just to be on the safe side.

A small tip: before drilling the final holes, mark the position using a spirit level and pencil as a test. This helps avoid ruining any holes later 😉. Good luck with the installation!

That note about the wall is really important, thanks! @Leote, have you ever installed anything on drywall? I’m especially interested in whether the original IKEA brackets alone are sufficient or if it’s better to use more expensive or specialized cavity anchors.

And one more question for everyone: How stable is it when stacking multiple Platsa units on top of each other and securing them together? Are there additional brackets or connectors needed?

Thanks in advance!
