Hello everyone, I recently assembled a Malm chest of drawers and followed the instructions carefully. However, one drawer doesn’t close properly – it always stays half a centimeter (0.2 inches) open and won’t click shut flush. I checked whether the runner is installed correctly, and everything looks fine visually. The drawer slides smoothly but just doesn’t close fully. Does anyone have experience or tips on what I could adjust? I’m asking specifically because IKEA furniture often has small assembly quirks that you need to be aware of. Thanks!

Check whether the drawer slides are installed perfectly parallel and at the same height. Sometimes, a slight adjustment in position is necessary.

This problem often occurs due to improperly adjusted metal or plastic dampers that assist with closing. Check if all clips and guide rails are correctly snapped in and ensure there are no misalignments. Additionally, the front panel may be slightly warped if the screws were not tightened evenly. A systematic inspection of all fixings and a careful visual check of the drawer slides are essential. If available, fine-tuning the drawer’s side panels can also help.

Hey, I had exactly the same problem with the MALM dresser! What worked really well for me: Pull the drawer all the way out, then gently press the rails inward with a small screwdriver – this makes the drawer fit much better and it closes like new again! 😊

The feeling when it finally clicks into place properly is really great! So don’t give up, it will definitely work for you too! 🙂

This can help, as long as no deformation occurs. Be careful with plastic parts to avoid breakage.

It is also important not to tighten the screws on the rails too much, so the sliding mechanism remains flexible. Over-tightening can affect the drawer’s travel and prevent it from closing properly. Another detail: check the height of the individual drawer components relative to each other, as sometimes small height differences need to be adjusted.
