Hello everyone, I am currently planning my new kitchen with IKEA Metod cabinets and have a drywall (plasterboard) wall as the base for the wall cabinets. I understand that drywall is not as load-bearing as solid walls, so I am looking for proven and reliable methods to securely and permanently attach the Metod wall cabinets to drywall. I am especially interested in which types of anchors work best and if additional reinforcements are necessary, how to properly distribute the load, and whether a support batten behind the drywall panel is required. Has anyone had experience with this approach and can provide specific tips on what to watch out for to ensure stability? Thanks in advance!

If it is not possible to install battens, hollow wall anchors with appropriate dimensions can be used, but the load-bearing capacity is significantly limited. Alternatively, consider mounting on brackets or wall profiles.

Typical mistakes include using dowels that are too small or only cavity anchors without any supporting battens behind them. This often leads to damage to the drywall under load.

That is absolutely correct. Additionally, it is important to consider the mounting height and the resulting leverage effect. The higher the cabinet is hung, the greater the stress on the already limited fixing points. Distributing the load across multiple fasteners and aiming for as horizontal a load transfer as possible are crucial.

Exactly, and to add: The mounting rail recommended by IKEA for Metod is very helpful because it can distribute the load evenly. When the rail is securely mounted, the forces are better spread across multiple fixing points. Additionally, adjustments and fine-tuning are easier to carry out.

Absolutely, the mounting rail is one of the most important components. It makes aligning the cabinets easier and ensures even load distribution. The key is that the rail itself must be properly fastened to the wall with suitable anchors and/or reinforcements. Without secure attachment of the rail, even the best technique won’t be effective.
