Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into the hinges for the IKEA PLATSA wardrobe and wanted to ask if there are any specific hinges for PLATSA that come with a soft-close function? I only found the standard hinges without damping at IKEA and wonder whether compatible alternatives from third-party suppliers can be used, or if IKEA perhaps offers its own less well-known soft-close system for PLATSA hinges.

For me, it is important that the doors close softly and quietly without having to completely modify them or install complicated upgrades. Does anyone have experience with this? Are there any special or official soft-close hinges for PLATSA? Or do you have to switch to other IKEA models (e.g., METOD kitchen hinge system) that might be adaptable?

Looking forward to your tips and experiences!

Hi lisidi, regarding your question: IKEA PLATSA is quite flexible, which also applies to its hinge system. Unfortunately, IKEA does not currently offer official soft-close hinges for PLATSA, at least not like those available for METOD or other kitchen cabinets.

However, many users report that the standard PLATSA hinges can be upgraded or converted with third-party soft-close dampers. You will need to do some tweaking and adjustments since the mounting holes are not always directly compatible.

My advice: look for universal soft-close dampers that can be attached between the hinge and cabinet carcass using glue or screws – this often provides a great effect without the need to replace the hinges entirely.

If you want to be on the safe side, METOD hinges are an alternative, but they require modification to fit PLATSA, which is not always straightforward.

In short: IKEA does not offer soft-close hinges specifically for PLATSA. But with some creativity, the issue can be solved. Good luck!

I can add here for DEOLAU: IKEA does not offer soft-close hinges for PLATSA. If you want soft-close, you either have to buy separate dampers or use and modify METOD hinges. A simpler solution is to attach external soft-close dampers.

Hello lisidi,

I would like to address your question in more detail, as the topic of soft-close hinges for IKEA PLATSA comes up frequently.

PLATSA is a standalone system from IKEA that is similar in design to METOD but is not compatible with all METOD components. Therefore, IKEA unfortunately does not offer specially adapted soft-close hinges for PLATSA. The PLATSA hinges are usually simple surface-mounted hinges without any damping function.

However, there are the following options:

- Adding soft-close dampers afterwards, such as small gas struts or springs that can be mounted directly on the hinge. This requires some DIY skills.
- Some users report that it is possible to use METOD kitchen hinges with soft-close if the brackets are adjusted – but this is not without challenges; sometimes modifications to the cabinet or door are necessary.
- Another alternative is installing other compatible hinges with integrated soft-close functionality, which can be found at hardware stores or online shops, but it is essential to check dimensions and mounting before purchasing.

I recommend carefully checking the measurements beforehand, because the drilling holes on PLATSA can differ. There are also forums online where users describe their modifications.

I hope this information helps you! If you want, I can also provide researched models that might fit.

Exactly, that sums it up well! It’s easy to confuse the two systems.

That works great with my PLATSA doors, even though it’s not an official upgrade. A bit of improvisation, but if you want quiet, click-free closing, it really makes sense.

A quick tip: Sometimes it’s worth checking out the furniture door dampers at the hardware store. There are often universal versions that fit with minimal effort.

Looking forward to whether lisidi has any more questions!

I understand how frustrating it can be when you want a small but useful feature like soft-close, and the furniture’s design doesn’t offer an easy solution.

I had a PLATSA wardrobe myself and was determined to have the soft-close function. After some research, I tried adding aftermarket dampers – it was a slow and somewhat fiddly process, but I was very happy with the result.

It really takes some patience since adjustments are sometimes necessary, but the closing is now much smoother. If you want, I can explain how I installed the dampers and which models I used. It’s like with many things: success comes from trying out different options and community advice.

Hang in there, it’s doable!
