Hello everyone, I have Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet fronts with integrated handles in my apartment and I am looking for the best way to clean these doors gently and effectively. It is important to me that the surface does not get damaged, as the white doors are relatively delicate, and that the integrated handles, where dirt and dust often accumulate, get thoroughly cleaned without too much effort. I would like to know which cleaning products and techniques you recommend here—whether special dish soap, all-purpose cleaners, microfiber cloths, or other tools are better suited. Which products and methods have worked well for you, especially regarding the integrated handles, which are a bit harder to reach? Thanks in advance for your tips!

I think it’s important to first confirm the exact material of the Metod doors – they are usually a melamine or foil surface. This means that aggressive cleaners or abrasives could cause scratches or permanent damage.

Therefore, I recommend using mild agents like some dish soap in warm water and a soft cloth.

Regarding the handle recess: you could also use a soft toothbrush or a small cleaning brush to remove dirt without damaging the surface.

Could someone confirm if the IKEA care instructions actually reflect best practice, or are there perhaps newer experiences?

Basically, it is correct that Metod doors with melamine or foil surfaces need to be handled carefully.

Recommended:
- Cleaning with lukewarm water and a mild dish detergent
- Using soft, lint-free microfiber cloths
- Avoiding abrasives, scouring agents, and harsh chemicals

For the handle grooves, a small brush or a soft sponge is useful to remove dirt residues. After cleaning, the surfaces should be wiped dry with a cloth to prevent water spots.

Do not use aggressive multi-purpose cleaners, as they can cause loss of gloss.

I simply use dish soap and warm water.
I clean the grooves with a cotton cloth wrapped around a toothpick.

Hey, I have great results using a damp, soft microfiber cloth and some mild dish soap in a bucket. I clean the grooves with an old toothbrush – it almost feels like a dental procedure for the kitchen, but the grooves really benefit from it 🙂

Important: Always scrub gently to avoid scratching the doors. Then wipe dry to prevent any slipping!

Damp cloth with mild dishwashing water. For the recessed handles, cotton swabs or small brushes are suitable.
