Hello everyone,
I am currently planning my Ikea Pax wardrobe and wondering if there are doors for the Pax system that come with an integrated door opener.
By door opener, I mean a type of mechanism that allows the door to be opened simply by pressing or pulling, without the need to attach an additional handle or separate opener.
Does anyone know if Ikea offers such doors directly, or do you always have to rely on third-party or retrofit solutions? I would also be interested to know if the installation is more complex if these doors are available.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hey, very interesting question! 🙌
As far as I know, Ikea does not offer Pax doors with an integrated mechanical door opener. The doors usually come with handles or can be used with push-to-open fittings, but the latter is mostly an aftermarket solution or from third-party suppliers.
If you prefer easy handling without handles, you can retrofit the push-to-open function. It works really well and is not too complicated to install.
Don’t be discouraged; it fits perfectly with Pax and makes the wardrobe look very modern!

Hello fomuix,
to answer your question in more detail: Ikea does not actually sell doors with built-in door openers in the traditional sense. That means there is no door with an automatic mechanism integrated that unlocks or opens the door when pressed, at least not with Pax.
What works well and is very popular are so-called push-to-open fittings. These are installed separately and allow you to open the door by gently pressing on it. This way, you don’t need handles anymore, and it looks very clean.
If you’re comfortable with installation, you can retrofit these fittings on both new and existing doors. The process is usually straightforward, and Ikea as well as other suppliers provide detailed instructions.
If you’re interested, I can gladly give you tips on how to proceed with the installation.

For clarification: Ikea does not standardly offer doors with integrated door openers for the Pax system. The common options include:
- Doors with handles
- Handleless doors that must be opened manually
- Retrofit push-to-open fittings for easy opening without handles
These retrofit solutions are typical add-ons compatible with the classic Pax system. Installation is generally straightforward and does not require special tools.
Anyone looking for a fully integrated opening mechanism would need to turn to third-party solutions or custom modifications, which Ikea does not provide directly.

Can you or someone else share insights on the reliability and durability of these push-to-open fittings? I’ve planned my cabinets for the long term and don’t want the hinges or the mechanism to fail after a short period.
Are there also quality differences between IKEA’s own retrofit solutions and those from third-party suppliers when looking for such mechanisms?
