ᐅ Which spare parts should I keep on hand for Ikea Besta units?

PINDANHello everyone,
I am currently looking into which spare parts for the Ikea Besta system are best to keep on hand, so that small repairs or adjustments don’t require unnecessary wait times. I’m particularly interested in which components tend to wear out more quickly or are easily lost, such as hinges, screws, or back panels.
Does anyone have experience with which parts are recommended to always have in stock to keep the furniture in good condition for as long as possible? Tips on parts that are best purchased as a set would also be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

For the Besta system, I especially recommend having spare hinges and the connecting fittings (Minifix and dowels) on hand. Hinges often wear out or become loose over time. Also, back panels can be difficult to replace if damaged. Screws are easily lost when moving the furniture, so it’s best to keep a small set of them available.
Hello PINDAN,
I think your question is very important because although the Besta system is quite robust, certain parts can cause problems more frequently, especially with regular use or when moving. I would organize the topic of spare parts as follows:
- Hinges: IKEA often uses Metabox hinge technology, which is durable, but the damper mechanism can weaken over time. Therefore, it is advisable to have at least 2-4 spare hinges on hand, especially if you have hinged doors.
- Minifix fittings and dowels: These connectors are essential because the furniture tends to loosen with frequent assembly and disassembly. Replacement sets of the same IKEA type are recommended since the dimensions are specific.
- Back panels: These are prone to cracks or moisture damage, particularly if the furniture is placed in damp rooms. Spare panels can be stored unopened and will keep for a long time.
- Screws: Shorter screws for covers and back panels are often lost quickly; having a small assortment of matching spare screws is practical.
A quick question: Do you plan to reconfigure the Besta frequently, or will it be used more statically? This affects how much spare material you should reasonably keep on hand.

Personally, over the years, small hinges and especially the plastic clips for the shelves have caused me the most trouble. They break very easily and replacements are usually only available as part of a set.
I’ve also noticed that with older Besta systems, the plastic feet often break or become loose. If you have feet like these, it might be worth keeping a small stock of them.
Lastly, it’s always helpful to have a roll of self-adhesive furniture pads on hand. They prevent scratches when moving furniture frequently—not a spare part in the traditional sense, but very useful.
Looking forward to hearing what others recommend!
