Hello everyone, I am currently considering whether the IKEA KALLAX shelving unit is really suitable for a children's room. My thought is that, due to its many compartments, the shelf looks neat and might be well suited for storing toys, books, and craft supplies in an organized way. On the other hand, I wonder if it is stable enough, if the size fits, and how the shelf performs in daily use – especially when small children often climb on it or take things out. Does anyone have experience with KALLAX in a children’s room? How do you handle safety, organization, and flexibility? I would appreciate exchanging ideas, including practical tips or criticisms!

Hello ZIANKAU, I can share from my own experience that KALLAX can be a really practical solution for a child’s room. The compartments are excellent for organization because you can use various sizes of boxes or baskets – this creates structure and can be easily adapted whenever needs change.

Regarding your safety question: KALLAX is quite sturdy, but I would always recommend securing it to the wall. This is especially important with younger children, to prevent the shelf from tipping over if they climb on it.

Another tip: use soft storage baskets for the compartments, which also helps prevent injuries. I would say KALLAX is a flexible and durable solution, especially when using the right boxes.

This discussion is really great! 🙂 I love KALLAX for the kids’ room!!

My daughter has a wide variety of toys, and the shelf really helps us keep the mess under control! You can slide in these nice colorful boxes, and it looks really nice too.

In terms of space, I found it pretty ideal, and it is stable as long as you fix it to the wall. I put some stickers on the corners, which she really likes – and it also makes it safer. Always great, I can only recommend it!

I completely understand your concerns, ZIANKAU. I felt the same way when I got a KALLAX shelf for the kids' area. Safety is definitely a factor that shouldn’t be underestimated.

That advice really helped me, as I was sometimes worried my son might pull on it while playing and it could tip over. Sometimes we also filled the compartments with heavy boxes so the shelf became even sturdier and more stable.

Another thing I find important is involving my child in deciding which toys go into which compartments. This encourages self-organization and makes tidying up more enjoyable. Maybe this could be interesting for you as well?

If you are looking for a flexible, easy-to-organize shelving unit, KALLAX is a good choice. It is sturdy, can be fixed to the wall, and offers many compartments. Make sure to use large boxes to prevent anything from falling out. Done.

To be honest, I find KALLAX really charming for a kids’ room! 🙂 With children, there’s often so much mess that it can feel overwhelming. But with this shelving unit, you can easily get things a bit more under control. Besides, it adds some style – it definitely has its own unique charm.

A little tip: When you order the shelf, consider getting a handful of colorful boxes to go with it! It not only makes everything look more vibrant but also softer and safer.

Exactly what I mean! And for the little climbers among us, wall mounting the unit really helps. Ah, even those who dislike tidying up become a bit calmer this way 😉
