Hello everyone,

I am currently considering replacing the existing handles on my Ikea Platsa cabinets with alternative furniture handles, as I am not entirely satisfied with the ones provided. Therefore, I have a question for the community: Are there any handles that fit particularly well with Ikea’s Platsa system? I am referring not only to appearance but also to proper fit, ease of use, and ease of installation.

I am especially interested in recommendations that not only look unique but are also technically sound and durable. Perhaps someone has practical experience with handles that can be easily swapped without requiring major modifications to the Platsa doors or drawers.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Hello! 😄

I actually equipped my Platsa with handles from Ikea’s "Växjö" series. They are simple, easy to install, and fit perfectly with the cabinet dimensions. The installation is very straightforward since their size and mounting screws align exactly with the original holes.

So if you’re looking for something both stylish and hassle-free, I can recommend the Växjö handles. A small tip: pay attention to the screw length, as some Platsa doors are slightly thicker than standard, so depending on the model, you might need longer screws. 😉

Good morning,

To choose the right handles for Platsa, I generally recommend paying attention to the drilling distances. Ikea Platsa fronts usually use the standard 128 mm (5 inches) or 160 mm (6¼ inches), depending on the door or drawer size.

Many handles from the accessories market are compatible with these measurements. When replacing the handle, be sure to measure the holes beforehand and check if the screw spacing matches.

Longer handles are worth considering for comfortable opening, especially on larger doors.

Since your focus is also on ease of installation, it makes sense to look for handles that come with screws included or at least have matching thread sizes.

I fully agree with RON57. Additionally, I would like to point out that the Platsa fronts are slightly thicker in depth compared to other IKEA systems like Metod or Faktum. This means that standard furniture handle screws can sometimes be too short.

My advice: Before purchasing, be sure to measure the thickness of your doors (usually around 19-22 mm (0.75-0.87 inches)) and then specifically look for longer mounting screws.

In terms of appearance, I find handles made of brushed metal particularly suitable, as they complement the simple look of Platsa without appearing too bulky.

The key technical parameters for selecting replacement handles for Ikea Platsa are:

- Hole spacing: Often 128 mm (5 inches), occasionally 160 mm (6.3 inches) depending on the door size
- Door thickness: Platsa fronts are approximately 19-22 mm (0.75-0.87 inches) thick, so longer screws are often necessary
- Material: Aluminum or stainless steel handles provide a good visual match and durability

Precise hole measurement is mandatory, as the standard dimensions are not always exact.

Installation without additional adjustments is guaranteed with handle-compatible products, provided the screw length is correct.

I recommend carefully checking all measurements with a caliper before changing handles and selecting the appropriate screw length. The material and design should be consistent with the overall look of the Platsa system.

Anything with a 128 mm drilling distance usually fits. I used Ikea knobs from my kitchen; they look good and are easy to install.
