Good morning everyone, I am currently dealing with the issue of increasingly visible scratches on the surface of our KALLAX hallway unit caused by shoes being frequently placed on it. These scratches are especially noticeable on the edges and front, and they affect the overall appearance of the furniture. My question for you is: What practical and long-lasting solutions are available to prevent or at least significantly reduce shoe scratches on the KALLAX hallway unit? Are there proven table protective films, padding, or special covers suitable for this purpose? Any tips on maintenance or preventive measures to minimize abrasion are also welcome.

Hello, I would first recommend using self-adhesive protective films specifically designed for furniture edges. They are easy to apply, transparent, and effectively prevent scratches.

The idea of protective films is generally good, but it is important to use ones specifically designed for furniture surfaces to avoid leaving any residue. Alternatively, transparent acrylic sheets can be cut to size and fixed in place with double-sided tape. This provides better protection against mechanical damage caused by shoes.

Hello japtolema3, I think your question is good and understandable. Scratches caused by shoes on furniture like KALLAX are a common issue, especially in hallways. Besides protective films and acrylic sheets, you can also use self-adhesive furniture films (like those available at hardware stores) in matte or glossy finishes – they are affordable and easy to clean. It is important to thoroughly clean the surface before applying them. Additionally, you can protect the hallway area with a small rug or mat so that shoes do not come into direct contact with the furniture. Placing a shoe rack or baskets can also help keep shoes away from the KALLAX.

That's right, I used such films for my hallway back then – they almost look like glass and are really durable 🙂

One more tip: You can also stick small felt furniture pads to the back of closet doors to reduce friction.

As an additional note: Protecting the material is important, but you should also pay attention to the shoes themselves. Scratches mainly occur from rough soles or high heels. It is advisable to wear only shoes with smooth soles or slippers in the hallway area. Additionally, I recommend using storage systems that prevent shoes from touching the KALLAX front directly. Low-budget plug-in baskets can help here by creating a little distance.
