Hey, I have some incredibly heavy technical books in the metal drawers of the Pax wardrobe, and they hold up really well—no squeaking or sticking at all. 😉
The standard wooden boxes with plastic runners bent after a short time for me, so I wouldn’t recommend putting heavy loads in those.
So: metal shelves and drawers are the sturdy choice when you need to handle heavy weights!

I have now switched to drawers with metal sides and thick-reinforced full-extension slides. While it’s not just a matter of cost, I consider the stability to be significantly better.
