Hello everyone,

I am planning to use my IKEA Metod tall kitchen cabinets as efficiently as possible for storage and organization. Storage can be tricky with tall cabinets, especially since you want to make use of the full height up to the ceiling while maintaining practical order.

I am particularly interested in your experiences with pull-out drawers, shelves, drawer systems, or extra accessories for the Metod tall cabinets.

- How do you manage to store tall bottles, pantry jars, or baking sheets in a practical way?
- Do you use different systems to make the best use of the cabinet depth?
- How do you organize the compartments so that you don’t lose overview and everything remains easily accessible?

I look forward to your tips and maybe some suggestions for clever storage solutions that go beyond the standard options. Thank you!

Hello Kloso2,

First of all, thank you for your very well-formulated question! Efficient use of the Metod tall cabinets can indeed be challenging, but with a few targeted tricks, the storage space can be cleverly organized.

Regarding your questions:
- For tall bottles and storage jars, I use vertical pull-out inserts with adjustable height. These can often be customized in height so that bulky items fit well and don’t wobble.
- To make the most of the cabinet depth, many people use pull-out baskets or so-called pull-out pantry units that extend all the way to the back. I highly recommend this, as it allows you to access everything without bending or stretching.
- For baking sheets and large trays, I use so-called door racks or specially designed baking sheet inserts that are mounted separately. This keeps the main area clear and helps prevent clutter.

My tip: Also take a look at the accessories available from IKEA itself—for example, the VARIERA series offers many practical inserts and boxes specifically designed for Metod tall cabinets.

Ultimately, the biggest difference for me was assigning fixed categories like “baking,” “beverages,” or “dry goods” to dedicated compartments and access points. This way, you don’t lose track, and everything has its place.

That sounds really practical. I know the problem of stacking everything in my tall cabinets and then hardly being able to keep things organized.

It’s also important for me to feel that the storage space ultimately works for you, not against you. Especially when you are under a lot of stress and need to move quickly in the kitchen, a well-thought-out system brings a lot of calm to daily life.

I personally took a long time to optimize this and was often frustrated by shelf heights that were just too high for my needs.

So here is my question to everyone: Do you use standard adjustable shelves, or do you invest in special accessories that allow you to customize the height individually?

I think this can make a big difference, especially for people who really want to take their kitchen organization to the next level.

I recommend the following:
- For tall items, use internal pull-out shelves on the lower levels
- Flat items like baking trays can be stored in side doors or in narrow shelves
- Use boxes and baskets to organize small parts

Standard shelves can often be adjusted as needed.

A practical zoning approach inside the Metod tall cabinets is advisable.

For example:
- Upper shelves for infrequently used items (e.g., seasonal kitchen tools)
- Middle sections for frequently used storage containers, kept in uniform, transparent boxes
- Lower drawers for heavy or bulky items

To make the most of the cabinet depth, pull-out systems or turntables (Lazy Susans) are highly recommended, as they greatly improve access.

Additionally, don’t underestimate the inside of cabinet doors: installing utensil holders creates extra space for slim bottles or baking paper rolls.

Careful planning, including measuring your kitchen utensils beforehand, saves time in the long run and helps structure storage space perfectly.
