PosuploHello everyone, I currently have several drawers in my Ikea Metod kitchen that sometimes squeak loudly when opening and closing. This is not only annoying, but I also worry that it could cause material wear or damage over time. I want to solve this problem in an effective and long-lasting way. Does anyone here have proven methods for maintaining and repairing squeaky Metod drawers? I am especially interested in what to pay attention to regarding the runners and rollers, and whether lubricants or other aids are recommended. I would also like to know if special tools are needed for maintenance or if the drawers need to be completely removed to ensure a successful repair. Thank you in advance for your tips and experiences!

I want to solve the problem as effectively and sustainably as possible. The question here is whether simple lubrication really provides a sustainable solution or just a short-term fix. Silicone spray often does not last long; furthermore, the root cause of the squeaking should be analyzed more closely: Is it the rollers, incorrect alignment, or material friction on unprotected areas?
In some cases, it makes sense to completely replace the tracks and rollers, as wear is often the reason for the squeaking. Many suppliers offer affordable genuine replacement parts.
It is also important to fully remove the drawer slide — only then can all moving parts be thoroughly cleaned and inspected. Avoid short circuits during repairs caused by reassembling only partially.
Does anyone have concrete experience on how long lubrication actually lasts or whether direct replacement parts provide better long-term results?

Avoid short circuits during repairs by assembling only partially. Very important point. I always recommend the following procedure for maintaining squeaky Metod drawers:
- 1. Fully remove the drawer; this usually requires no special tools, as the fixtures are generally easy to access.
- 2. Clean all runners and rollers with a lint-free cloth to remove dust and dirt residues.
- 3. Visually inspect rollers and runners for wear, especially cracks or broken plastic parts.
- 4. Lubricate with a suitable silicone-based lubricant, since it does not attract dust and remains water-resistant.
- 5. Reassemble everything properly and check the running direction, ensuring smooth, straight sliding.
If rollers or runners are damaged, they should be ordered from Ikea as replacement parts and swapped out.
No special tools are needed — usually just a screwdriver and possibly a small Allen key.
This structured maintenance effectively and permanently eliminates squeaking. If anyone has specific issues with certain models, feel free to ask.
