Hello everyone, I recently purchased the Metod kitchen system from Ikea and am now facing the challenge of properly assembling the sink cabinet. My specific question is: How do I assemble the Metod sink cabinet so that it stands stable, the cutout for the sink fits correctly, and there is still enough space for the plumbing and the trap? Maybe you can give me tips on the best way to approach the assembly, which screws are essential to use, and what to pay special attention to when joining the cabinet sides? I am also interested in whether it’s better to attach the bottom rail before or after assembly and how to properly adjust the door hinges so that they don’t sag. Thanks in advance for your help!

I would install the bottom track before assembling the unit, as this helps with stability. Then assemble the two cabinet halves and securely fasten them together. When cutting out the opening for the sink, it’s important to maintain the exact position so that the faucet and drain trap fit properly. Always tighten screws firmly, but avoid overtightening. Take your time when adjusting the door hinges; this is usually done very precisely using the adjustment screws on the hinges.

At first glance, this all sounds very technical and can be a bit overwhelming. I personally had issues with the fit of my Metod sink cabinet, and what helped me was adjusting the hinges carefully, step by step. It’s okay if it’s not perfect on the first try. I also think it’s important that all cables and pipes are measured and planned in advance to avoid stress later on. You’ll definitely manage it!

Good morning drage0, I’m happy to help you! First of all, you should precisely align the base frame and the side panels of the Metod sink cabinet, as they form the main structure for stability. The base rail is usually attached to the side panels before assembly. It is important to use the screws and fasteners exactly as per the instructions — Ikea uses special Minifix bolts that need to be tightened securely but carefully to avoid splitting.

Regarding the cutout for the sink: double-check the shape of the openings, as they are often standardized but there can be variations. Also, make sure the siphon does not hit the back wall of the cabinet; otherwise, you may need to modify the cabinet afterward.

For the doors: the Metod hinges are very common and can usually be adjusted in three ways – height, sideways, and depth. To access the adjustment screws, you will need to remove the door covers. I recommend roughly positioning the doors first, then fitting all doors, and finally making fine adjustments.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!

Attach the base rail before installation, then connect the carcasses. Check the cutout for the sink to ensure the trap and pipes fit. Adjust the hinges using the adjustment screws. Done.

Thanks for the answers so far. I have a follow-up question regarding floor supports: Should I attach the adjustable feet only after assembling the cabinet halves, or install them individually beforehand? My kitchen floor isn’t completely level, and I’ve heard that the adjustable feet can help compensate for unevenness – but I’m unsure whether this makes the assembly easier or more difficult. Also, when installing the floor track, is there anything to consider if, for example, the tiles on the floor are slightly uneven? Is there a way to compensate for that?
