Hello everyone, I am planning to install an Ikea PAX wardrobe in my bedroom, but unfortunately the wooden floor there is not level. There are slight tilts and unevenness that make it difficult to assemble it straight. Therefore, my question is: how do I install an Ikea PAX on uneven wooden floors so that the wardrobe stands securely, doesn’t wobble, and the doors close properly? I have already read about leveling feet and special underlays, but I am unsure what is best suited for visible wooden floorboards that are also sensitive to moisture. I would be very grateful for any advice on installation methods, tools, or practical aids!

Great question! I had the exact same issue with my wooden floorboards, which were slightly warped. The best approach is to roughly assemble all the PAX sections before installation and stand them upright on the floor to check how stable they are.

I then used rubber furniture shims, which you can find at hardware stores. These can be easily slipped under the adjustable feet of the PAX unit. They help compensate for unevenness without damaging the floor. If the feet aren’t enough, I also stuck small felt pads on top to prevent scratches.

It’s easiest to assemble with two people, so you can adjust for unevenness before fully securing the sections with screws.

Patience pays off! Good luck! 😊

For technical reasons, I recommend using adjustable furniture feet designed for uneven floors. These allow precise, millimeter-accurate alignment of individual components.

When using them on moisture-sensitive wooden floorboards, be sure to place a separating layer of protective felt or cork pads between the foot and the floor. These materials prevent scratches and minimize moisture impact.

Furthermore, for more complex unevenness, a thin barrier or leveling board under the entire cabinet is advisable. During installation, ensure all connections are tight and properly aligned to avoid stress in the structure, which is especially important for PAX wardrobes with sliding doors.

That’s a good tip. I would like to add that it’s important to fully assemble and level the PAX unit before attaching the back panel. The back panel stiffens the structure but also makes it difficult to adjust the alignment afterward.

These goals are best achieved by using a spirit level and installing and adjusting the sliding doors only at the very end. For minor unevenness, silicone pads can also be used to absorb slight movements and protect against damage.

If the floor is very uneven, it might be advisable to have a thin wooden strip or a sturdy OSB board custom-made by a carpenter to serve as a level base before assembly.

I hope these tips are helpful!
