Hello everyone, I will soon be moving into a rental apartment and plan to use my Ikea Pax wardrobe there. However, I am unsure how to secure it without causing damage to the apartment. Are there specific Ikea Pax mounting systems or solutions that are especially suitable for rental units, meaning no direct drilling or screwing into the walls? I would appreciate practical experiences, recommendations, or advice on how to safely fix the wardrobe so that it stands firmly and is not a safety hazard, but can also be easily and cleanly removed without leaving marks. Thanks in advance!

Ikea offers special fittings for Pax wardrobes that are usually screwed into the wall. For rental apartments where drilling is not allowed, tension rods or clamp profiles often work. These are not original Ikea products but are compatible.

I understand that the issue of fixings in rental apartments can often be challenging. I had a similar experience and was worried about leaving damage on the walls when moving out. I found it very helpful to use tension rods that press the wardrobe against the ceiling. This kept everything stable without having to drill. There may also be special protective films or padding to prevent pressure marks. I completely understand your uncertainty and am curious to see what other solutions will be suggested here.

To answer the question precisely: Ikea itself generally provides mounting hardware for securing the Pax wardrobe to the wall. These fittings are intended to prevent tipping accidents. For rental apartments where drilling is not allowed, Ikea does not offer official products. However, external suppliers do offer tension rods or pressure poles that secure the wardrobe between floor and ceiling. The downside is that stability largely depends on the structural conditions, such as ceiling height and wall surface. Additionally, you should watch out for potential pressure marks, especially on delicate wall and floor surfaces. Alternatively, there are also wardrobe anchors that work with adhesive tape, but these are less durable and less secure.

I secured the Pax wardrobe in my rental apartment using telescopic rods. No drilling needed, yet it’s stable. Simply wedge it between the floor and ceiling. Works well.

The telescopic pole system is a good alternative. It works without drilling and is available at hardware stores. Important: Measure the height accurately before installation.
