Hello everyone, I am currently planning to set up a children's room using IKEA Besta furniture and would like to know which variations or combinations from this range are particularly suitable for kids' rooms. Important factors for me are safety (no sharp edges), adaptability to changing needs (e.g., storage, adjustability), as well as child-friendly design and easy cleaning. Does anyone have experience with specific Besta models that have proven to work well for children? Tips on recommended dimensions or material combinations would also be helpful. Thank you in advance!

For children's rooms, I would recommend the lower BESTA cabinets, as they are easier for children to reach. Additionally, models with doors only, rather than doors and drawers, are more practical because they have fewer edges.

Hello Eduardona, your question is very well formulated, as you directly address the essential criteria for furnishing a child’s room. To be safe, I can say that the BESTA series is generally available with rounded edges, but if you’re unsure, a cover or edge protector is recommended, especially for low furniture.

For children’s rooms, the advantage of BESTA is its modularity: you can combine different sizes and heights to flexibly create shelves, cabinets, or even seating areas. Especially recommended are the BESTA Burs combined with the narrow frame and acrylic glass doors. This not only helps keep things organized but also looks friendly.

Regarding cleaning, the surfaces are melamine-coated, which makes maintenance much easier. As for the dimensions: I would start with small cabinets (60cm x 38cm (24 inches x 15 inches)) since they are easy to manage and provide enough storage space for toys or books. When the child grows, you can easily add extensions.

Hope this helps!

I think the BESTA series is great for children's rooms! 😊 Especially the doors with soft-close function are excellent because children are less likely to pinch their fingers. Also, using white or pastel-colored fronts creates a very friendly atmosphere. I personally built a combination of a low sideboard and wall-mounted shelves for my son – it looks great and remains flexible. Just go for it when doing it yourself; the pieces are sturdy and easy to assemble!

Great tip! I’m also interested in whether anyone has experience with the durability under frequent use. This is especially important with children who might climb on it or play around it. Are there any recommended tips for securely attaching it to the wall or for additional reinforcements? Also, regarding the material: is the wood or surface really resistant to scratches and moisture, for example if something tips over or drinks are spilled nearby?

The BESTA furniture is generally sturdy when properly assembled and, most importantly, securely attached to the wall. IKEA provides appropriate wall brackets, which should definitely be used, especially in children's rooms, to prevent tipping accidents.

Regarding the surface: melamine coatings are resistant to moisture and minor scratches, but under heavy use, it is important to regularly check for damage and repair small defects as needed with repair kits. It is advisable to place drinks in suitable containers nearby, but this should not be an issue.

As for suitability for play: there is extensive experience showing that BESTA can withstand active use, with safety largely depending on proper wall mounting.
