Hello everyone, I have some damaged doors on my Ikea Pax wardrobe, where the finish is chipped or there are small dents visible. Specifically, these are the white high-gloss doors that I use quite often. My question is: What is the best way to repair these doors without having to buy completely new ones? Are there effective methods to fix chipped finishes, touch up minor scratches or dents, or generally restore the surface to a reasonably good appearance? I have already considered various repair kits or paint pens but am uncertain about their durability and visual results. If anyone has experience with repairing or replacing individual panels on the Pax doors, I would also appreciate any advice. Thank you in advance for any helpful tips!

Are there effective methods to repair chipped veneer, touch up small scratches or dents, or generally restore the surface to a visually acceptable condition? In general, damage to the high-gloss finish on Ikea Pax doors is difficult to conceal permanently because the material is usually a foil laminated over engineered wood. Here are some structured recommendations:
- For small scratches, special filler or paint pens designed for high-gloss furniture, available in white or exact color matches, work well. Clean and degrease the surface before applying.
- For chipped areas, you can carefully apply transparent furniture glue and insert small matching pieces of foil if replacement foil is available, which is rarely the case.
- Deeper dents or missing sections can be filled with wood filler, then sanded and covered with high-gloss lacquer—but this requires considerable skill and proper tools.
- Alternatively, for severely damaged doors, ordering replacement panels from Ikea and swapping them out is often the most aesthetically reliable solution.
Ultimately, the condition and extent of the damage determine the appropriate method. Repair kits offer a temporary fix, but replacement is usually the only durable option.

For small scratches, special filler or touch-up pens for high-gloss furniture are suitable I completely agree! I treated my chipped Pax door with such a touch-up pen – it looks really good afterwards! Of course, it will never be 100% like new, but for small scratches it works perfectly.
One more tip: If you have dents that aren’t too deep, you can often gently expand them with hot water and then carefully push them out. But be careful, the surface must not swell up completely!
Don’t lose heart – with a little patience, you can manage it! 🙂

Another tip: If you have dents that aren’t too deep, you can often gently expand them with hot water and then carefully push them out. That’s a useful suggestion I’d like to add to. For Ikea Pax doors with a foil coating, it’s advisable to proceed carefully, as too much moisture or heat can damage the foil.
A proven method is:
- Carefully remove the door and place it on a soft surface.
- Use a heat gun (set to a low temperature) or a hair dryer at a minimum distance of 20 cm (8 inches).
- Slowly warm the dent so the material becomes more pliable, then apply pressure from the back side using a blunt tool.
- Afterwards, cool the surface with a soft cloth.
For smaller scratches, applying a wax stick or furniture polish specifically designed for high-gloss surfaces can help improve the shine.
If larger areas are peeling, it may be necessary to order specific replacement parts from Ikea. Overall, a combination of small repair kit techniques and gentle handling is usually the best approach.
