Hello everyone,
I am currently planning my new kitchen and am researching the IKEA Metod system in detail. My kitchen will have a U-shape, and I’m wondering if assembling the Metod system myself is straightforward with this layout.
I understand that IKEA primarily facilitates straight kitchen units, but how does the system handle a U-shaped configuration? Are the angles and corner solutions in the Metod system flexible enough to allow for the modules to be self-assembled and adjusted?
Perhaps some of you have experience building a U-shaped kitchen and can share whether the self-assembly is more complex compared to other layouts, and if there are any specific challenges or traps to watch out for during the installation.
I would appreciate any tips, experiences, or advice regarding suitable connectors or necessary adjustments!

The system is modular and offers various corner solutions, such as corner base cabinets and special corner cabinets with folding doors. That sounds good, thank you! I’m particularly interested in the interior fittings of the corner cabinets in the U-shape. Are there special pull-outs or rotating carousels, or do you have to settle for traditional corner solutions?
I want to make the most efficient use of the storage space and avoid dead corners behind the doors.

I’m particularly interested in how the interior fittings are arranged in the corner cabinets of the U-shaped kitchen. For the corner base cabinets with Metod, there are two options: a lazy susan that can be partially adjusted, and a solution with swing-out shelves that provide better access to storage.
The lazy susan saves space but is often less practical for larger pots and pans. The swing-out shelves offer improved accessibility but are somewhat more expensive and require careful installation.
If maximizing storage space is important, I would definitely recommend the swing-out shelves.

Are there special pull-outs or corner carousels, or do you have to settle for classic corner solutions?I installed swing-out pull-outs in my U-shaped kitchen and I’m really happy with them! They’re very practical and much easier to use than just a corner carousel.
The self-assembly works really well, especially if you take your time. I kept checking how others did it along the way – that was very motivating!
Thank you for the answers so far; corner solutions are an important topic for me.
I am also interested in whether there can be issues with structural load or stability when assembling U-shaped layouts myself. Are there specific reinforcements or connecting elements that should be considered?
Or are the IKEA connectors usually sufficient, even when connecting three cabinet rows at right angles?

whether there can be problems with structural load or stability in a U-shaped layout when assembling the cabinets independentlyThere are no unusual structural issues with U-shaped kitchens if the connecting parts are assembled correctly. IKEA provides special brackets and angle connectors for the corners of the Metod cabinets.
It is important to align the cabinets on a level surface and securely fasten all connection points.
This is often underestimated. Uneven floors or walls can have a negative impact, so it is advisable to adjust the cabinets precisely using the adjustable feet.
