Hello everyone,
I recently heard about the new generation of the Kallax shelving unit and am wondering if anyone here has any experience with it?
I am particularly interested in whether you have noticed any significant differences compared to previous versions—whether in terms of stability, workmanship, or design.
Are there real improvements, or is it just marketing?
Also, how compatible are the accessories with older Kallax models?
Looking forward to an active exchange!

Thanks for the question, pin_si! I feel the same way and have some doubts about whether the new generation is truly improved. The new Kallax feels lighter to me, which makes me a bit uncertain – is it due to less material or just a slimmer design?
I hope others will also share their experiences.

I wonder whether the weight reduction is actually due to new materials or just a reduction in material thickness at the expense of stability.
Does anyone have data or tests comparing the material thickness of the new versus old models? That would be important to properly assess whether the new shelves are more durable or not.
So, I’ve recently started using the new Kallax and actually find the design a bit fresher. 🙂
I also notice that the surfaces feel a little smoother and the edges are slightly less sharp – which I really appreciate as a family with small children.
I can’t say whether it’s more stable, but it does feel higher quality! Maybe IKEA just added a better finish. 😉

For me personally, it’s important how durable the shelving unit is in everyday use, even after several moves or heavy use.
That’s why I would like to hear if anyone has long-term experience—whether the new generation remains just as stable and high-quality after months or years as it did in the beginning.
