Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets with the integrated soft-close drawers but am concerned about how to do this as safely and securely as possible—especially since the drawer mechanism can be sensitive to incorrect installation. I am not only interested in the correct assembly but also in tips on how to precisely adjust the drawer slides and which tools and aids are essential for a secure installation. Could someone please describe step by step what to watch out for and how to avoid mistakes?

The running rails of the soft-close drawers should be installed parallel with a maximum tolerance of 1 mm (0.04 inches).

This is an important point that cannot be emphasized enough. Deviations of more than 1 mm (0.04 inches) cause significant functional limitations in soft-close slides, ultimately leading to premature wear or misalignment. Therefore, using a spirit level and, if necessary, precise measuring tools is essential.

Regarding tools: I definitely recommend a cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque settings. This helps prevent screws from being driven too deep into the material. A tape measure and a spirit level also assist with accurate measurements and alignment.

It is also important to align the drawer fronts after installation. This helps the soft-close function, as uneven fronts can negatively affect the damping mechanism.

Tip: Tighten screws gradually, not all at once. Otherwise, you may deform the parts and the drawers will no longer operate smoothly.

That hits the nail on the head. Additionally, I recommend treating the drawer slides with a light lubricant designed for metal sliding surfaces after installation, provided that the IKEA system allows it. This will result in smoother movement and longer-lasting damping.

One more tip for assembly: The metal brackets used for reinforcement should be positioned temporarily before final fastening to avoid any tension or misalignment.

As asked earlier: Have you already confirmed the room dimensions and the possibility of wall mounting? This can significantly improve stability.
