Hello everyone,

I have a somewhat unusual problem: my Kallax shelf is placed in a passageway, and unfortunately, it keeps shifting whenever someone passes by or there are slight vibrations. I have already tried placing felt pads underneath, but that didn’t really help. It would be great if someone could advise me on the best way to secure a Kallax shelf in this kind of situation without ruining the appearance or damaging the furniture. Are there any easy-to-install solutions or specific products you would recommend? I’m looking forward to your tips and experiences.

Thanks in advance!

In this case, I recommend stabilizing the Kallax by placing non-slip rubber mats or pads directly under the shelf feet. Alternatively, self-adhesive furniture anchors designed specifically to prevent furniture from sliding can be used. It is important to thoroughly clean the floor area where the shelf stands first to ensure good adhesion.

Additionally, attaching the shelf to the wall is advisable. Even if the Kallax is not very tall, a simple wall fix prevents movement. This can often be done discreetly and with minimal effort. Increased stability means greater safety, especially in tight spaces.

Rubber anti-slip pads are the simplest solution. You stick them to the bottom of the feet, and the shelf stands securely in place.

Wall mounting is often the best long-term solution, especially in walkways. This completely prevents any shifting.

Thanks for the tips so far. I’m actually hesitant to fix the shelf to the wall because the passage is open on two sides and I don’t want to make any drill holes. Are there alternatives, such as clamp or slot systems, that can be secured without drilling into the wall?

Also, how reliable are these anti-slip pads if you want to move the shelf occasionally? Do they hold up over time, or does the adhesive eventually lose its grip?

Understandable if you want to avoid drilling. In that case, special clamp mounts called “no-drill” furniture brackets are an option. These use tension mechanisms and pressure on skirting boards or the ceiling to secure the furniture. However, their stability is usually less than that of direct wall mounting.

High-quality pads can hold for several months and can be removed without leaving any residue. If you plan to move the shelf frequently, it’s advisable to have several spare pads available. Cleaning the feet before applying the pads also improves their durability.
