Hello everyone,
I have a kitchen with matte IKEA Metod fronts and am looking for a truly effective method to clean these fronts gently and efficiently. It is important to me that the matte surface is not damaged or becomes dull or stained due to overly aggressive cleaning products.
Which cleaning agents and procedures do you recommend? Do you use special cloths, sponges, or home remedies that work particularly well?
I am also interested in how often the cleaning should ideally be done to keep the fronts looking good over time, especially when grease or water splashes occur regularly.
I look forward to your experiences and tips!

For cleaning the matte IKEA Metod fronts, I recommend the following based on the material information and experience:
- Use a soft microfiber cloth that is slightly dampened for basic cleaning.
- A mild dishwashing detergent diluted with water is suitable as a cleaning agent. Avoid harsh cleaners containing solvents or ammonia.
- Always apply the cleaning solution to the cloth first, never directly onto the fronts.
- After cleaning, wipe the surfaces again with a dry, clean cloth to prevent water spots.
Important: Do not use scouring agents or abrasive sponges, as the matte surface can be easily scratched.
Regular cleaning (about weekly, depending on use and dirt) prevents stubborn grease buildup and helps maintain the appearance of the fronts.
If stains are very stubborn, you can try special plastic cleaners designed for matte surfaces, but always test first in an inconspicuous area.

I was often unsure myself because I tended to clean too vigorously and was afraid of damaging the matte finish.
I find it reassuring to read that mild cleaning agents and soft cloths are sufficient.
Maybe a small addition from me: If you wipe the surfaces with a soft, dry microfiber cloth after cleaning, they don’t become shiny, but I think they simply look better cared for.
By the way, if you have sensitive fingerprints or grease marks, it can help to wring out the microfiber cloth well in clean water and wipe the surfaces again to reduce residues.
I hope this helps some of you with similar concerns!
As an addition, I would like to share a step-by-step guide that helped me a lot with my matte IKEA Metod fronts:
- Step 1: Always start by removing dust and loose dirt with a dry microfiber cloth.
- Step 2: Dissolve 1–2 drops of mild dish soap in a bucket of warm water.
- Step 3: Dip a soft, lint-free cloth into the solution, wring it out well until it is only damp.
- Step 4: Gently wipe the fronts with the cloth, always following the grain direction (if visible) and never rubbing too hard.
- Step 5: Wipe again with a cloth dampened with clean water to remove any soap residue.
- Step 6: Completely dry with a dry microfiber cloth.
Common mistakes include scrubbing too hard and using aggressive cleaners or rough sponges, which can cause irreversible damage to the matte surface.
One more note: Some users report that using water that is too hot or cleaning wet too often can make the fronts more prone to matte streaks. Therefore, it’s better to use lukewarm water and avoid excessive moisture too frequently.
This way, the surface stays looking fresh for longer and attracts fewer fingerprints.
