Hello everyone, I am planning to get an Ikea Pax wardrobe and am looking for the best layout that is as flexible as possible and can optimally accommodate both hanging clothes and folded items. It is important to me that there are enough rods for shirts and jackets, as well as plenty of shelves or drawers for sweaters, t-shirts, and accessories. Which combinations or internal fittings have worked best for you when it comes to organizing the wardrobe so that you can quickly find what you need in the morning and keep it tidy in the long term? I would appreciate any practical tips and specific suggestions, possibly including advice on how to arrange everything most effectively, such as shelf height, number of hanging rods, use of drawers versus shelves, etc.

Thank you for the well-formulated question; that really helps! In my experience, you definitely need a mix because I initially had only hanging rods, and that didn’t work well since some items are better stored folded.

Here’s how I did it: plenty of space at the top for long garments, so jackets and coats aren’t cramped. Below that, several shelves set at different heights. For example, I have shelves for sweaters and t-shirts that are easy to reach without having to rearrange everything. And definitely drawers for small items and accessories, otherwise it’s easy to lose track of things.

I know this isn’t the cheapest solution, but for me, the investment in drawers was worth it to keep things organized and avoid constantly searching for socks and belts.

I would recommend at least two clothing rods, one for short garments and one for long garments, plus a few shelves for folded items. Drawers should be used only for small accessories.

Hello Fafeus, your question is really well put because it clearly outlines the needs and focuses on practical use.

Regarding the layout: I prefer a combination of high and low clothes rails in the Ikea Pax system to hang, for example, shirts separately from coats. A level with pull-out drawers is very useful for underwear, socks, or accessories.

I use the shelves for folded T-shirts and sweaters, which can be stacked neatly like that. A mix of open shelves and doors is practical, as it keeps dust away while maintaining easy visibility.

It is also important to use adjustable shelves and possibly hooks on the inside of the doors for belts or jewelry. This can create extra storage space, especially in narrower Pax wardrobes.

I hope this helps you!

Several hanging rods at different heights and some drawers are ideal. Shelves for folded items are sufficient.

An important aspect is the efficient use of space in Pax systems with maximum floor utilization. I recommend installing at least one rod just above the drawer level to hang shorter items. This saves space and improves organization.

Additionally, adjustable shelves are ideal for sweaters or jeans since they can be adapted flexibly.

Using accessories like pull-out trays or baskets is also practical for keeping small items organized.
