jan39Hello everyone, I am interested in the different models of the Ikea Brimnes series and have noticed that there are, for example, dressers, beds with storage, and even wardrobes. My main question is: What are the specific differences between the various Ikea BRIMNES models in terms of their functions, dimensions, material quality, and internal layout? I would also like to know if certain versions are better suited for specific living situations, such as small rooms versus larger spaces. I am looking for a detailed and nuanced answer, as I am considering purchasing a BRIMNES product but want to avoid making a wrong choice. Thank you in advance for your help!
Good question, jan39. Basically, the BRIMNES series includes several types of furniture: beds, dressers, nightstands, and wardrobes. Each product type then comes in different variants with varying dimensions and design details. It is important to note, for example, that some beds come with storage boxes underneath, while others don’t. This is a major functional difference, as some models offer storage space under the sleeping surface and others do not. There are also differences in the height of the dressers and the number of drawers.
Regarding the material: Ikea generally uses a combination of particleboard with melamine-coated surfaces for BRIMNES, which is fairly sturdy but not high-end. For the price, however, the quality is acceptable in my opinion.
One thing you should not overlook is that the models are optimized for different uses, such as wardrobes with sliding doors if space is limited, or dressers with more drawers if you want finer organization. Which variant fits well depends solely on the intended purpose.
What bothers me, though, is the limited flexibility in interior layouts – many drawers are not height-adjustable, or there are no dividers at all. In such cases, you may need to add these yourself.
I would recommend carefully checking the dimensions before purchase and comparing them with what you actually want to store.

There is a significant functional difference because some models offer storage space under the bed base, while others do not. This can be clearly confirmed.
The Ikea BRIMNES beds mainly differ by whether they include a storage box or not, as well as by size (e.g., 140x200 cm (55x79 inches) vs. 160x200 cm (63x79 inches)).
With the dressers, the differences are mainly in:
- Number and arrangement of drawers
- Front panel height and appearance
- Dimensions (width x height x depth)
The material quality is the same for all models (particleboard with melamine foil).
BRIMNES wardrobes differ in:
- Door type (hinged doors vs. sliding doors)
- Dimensions (width, height, depth)
- Interior layout (variations in hanging rods and shelves)
The functional focus is always on optimizing storage space with narrow floor footprints.
Conclusion: Selection should be based on individual space requirements and preferred storage solutions. Differences are not significant, rather variations of the same basic concept.
I’d like to add that I personally own a BRIMNES bed with a storage box and have been very satisfied so far. The storage space under the sleeping surface has been very helpful in my small bedroom for storing bedding and items that are rarely used. However, I found the opening mechanism a bit stiff at first until I got used to it.
What I appreciate about dressers is their height – the lower variations fit well under windowsills, which is useful when space is limited.
The color tone is also important: BRIMNES is usually available in white or dark brown, which creates a different visual effect – white makes the room brighter, while dark brown looks more elegant but may reduce the amount of light.
So if you’re asking about the differences, besides the function and type of storage, design and dimensions are also crucial, depending on your room layout.
I hope this helps you.

I’m also interested in whether certain options are better suited for specific living situations, such as small rooms versus larger spaces.I think this is a very important question! Especially in small rooms, the BRIMNES beds with storage offer a real advantage because you often lose extra closet space otherwise. For larger rooms, I might consider the bigger dressers or even the wardrobe with sliding doors, as these save space while still providing plenty of room for clothes.

The storage under the sleeping surface really helped me in the small bedroom I can only agree with that; this feature convinced me as well when I moved at some point.I would also add that you should pay attention to the assembly instructions and the time required to build – some models are more complex and require a bit of DIY skill.
All in all, the BRIMNES series is very well thought out for different room sizes and usages, as it offers variants in various heights, widths, and depths.
