Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble an Ikea Brimnes piece of furniture soon, and I have a question: Are there any specific tools that are especially recommended for assembling Ikea Brimnes or that make the process significantly easier? I am familiar with the usual tools like screwdrivers and a hammer, but I wonder if Ikea provides any special tools or if certain aids really make sense to speed up or improve the safety of the assembly. I remember how frustrating my first Brimnes assembly was until I realized that the included tool was quite small and awkward to use. A standard hex key fits more comfortably in the hand. Additionally, a small ratchet attachment helped me a lot because, otherwise, I would have struggled to tighten some screws.

Still, I want to point out that IKEA seems to rely on the standard tools to keep the price low. This can be really annoying for beginners. However, if you prepare a bit and equip yourself properly, it is definitely manageable.

Super important question! Especially if you are building a piece of furniture like Brimnes for the first time, you might wonder if you need any special tools. My recommendation: definitely bring a cordless drill, it makes things so much easier! And if you need to fasten screws at awkward angles, get a small angle attachment. That way, the assembly will be a quick success!

I have an additional question: Are there particular assembly steps or connections in Brimnes where using special tools is especially beneficial? For example, some screws might be harder to reach or wooden parts could be more easily damaged if the wrong tools are used.

I would appreciate it if anyone could share cases where they definitely needed more than the provided tools.

Yes, there are indeed a few areas in Brimnes where tight spaces or delicate materials come into play:

- When assembling the back panels, small angled bits or ratchet attachments can significantly improve access for the screwdriver.
- The clamp connections on the drawer slides are sensitive to excessive pressure, so applying controlled torque is important here.
- For the metal connectors, the small hex key is usually sufficient; additionally, a bit holder extension can be helpful for reaching tight spots.

As a general rule, for all delicate wooden parts, it is important to use the appropriate tool size to avoid damage such as splintering.

I can only agree with that. When I was assembling mine, the back panels were especially tricky because the screw mounts were sometimes positioned quite awkwardly.

I used a ratchet adapter with a short extension bit – this allowed me to make smooth turning movements even in tight spaces without having to reposition the screwdriver constantly.

Additionally, I recommend not tightening the screws fully right away, but gradually tightening them little by little. This helps prevent warping, which can damage both the materials and the screw holes.
