Hello everyone, I am planning to outfit an Ikea Pax wardrobe with mirrored doors but am unsure which of the various plexiglass or glass doors with mirrors are the most suitable. I am especially interested in criteria such as durability, mirror clarity, cleaning recommendations, and how well they perform in everyday use—particularly regarding possible scratches and fogging. Additionally, I would like to know if anyone has experience with the different sizes and opening mechanisms of the mirrored doors and whether they are better suited for narrow or wide carcasses. Which mirrored doors for the Ikea PAX series would you recommend and why? Thank you in advance for your insights!

Regarding maintenance: Use glass cleaner, avoid abrasive cloths or sponges. For plexiglass, it is better to use a microfiber cloth and mild soap. Be careful with mechanical cleaning, especially with plexiglass, as fine scratches can appear very quickly.

Have you checked whether you want the doors with or without framing? In my experience, doors with framed mirrors are somewhat more resistant to damage.

This assessment matches the technical data: aluminum frames increase stability and effectively protect the edges of the mirror.

Furthermore, I would like to point out the weight limitations of the PAX system. Mirror doors with glass are heavier than solid wood doors and can put more strain on the hinge. This should be taken into account during installation to avoid damage.

For optimal use, I recommend mirror glass sized 50x236 cm (20x93 inches) with an integrated aluminum frame. This door option is compatible with most PAX systems and offers the best balance of appearance and durability.

I use the best PAX mirrored doors with aluminum frames and safety glass. They are durable, clear, and protect the mirror even against strong impacts. Cleaning is straightforward, and the doors are compatible with all standard carcasses.

Thank you for this precise explanation; it helps me a lot. Has anyone here, including you, had experience with mirrored doors narrower than 50cm (20 inches)? I want to fit the wardrobe into a rather tight niche and am wondering if the stability of 40cm (16 inches) wide mirrored doors with aluminum frames is still just as good.

I have installed a 40cm (16 inch) door with an aluminum frame here. The stability is very good; it feels solid. However, you should keep in mind that narrow doors are opened and closed more often because they have less surface area – so it’s better to use high-quality hinges.

I would like to return to the topic of cleaning – earlier, I asked how to best avoid scratches on mirror surfaces. I regularly clean my PAX mirrored doors with a soft microfiber cloth and glass cleaner, but I avoid cheap paper towels that tend to leave fibers or cause minor scratches. Maybe this tip will be helpful to some of you as well.
