Hello everyone, I recently ordered the Platsa system from IKEA and have been working mainly with the door fronts during assembly. I noticed that one of the doors on my PLATSA cabinet sticks significantly when I try to open or close it. It feels like it rubs or doesn’t fit properly in the frame at a specific point, so it won’t close fully without applying force.

This surprises me because I was quite careful during assembly and installed all screws according to the instructions. I have also checked whether the hinges are properly adjusted, but the sticking problem has hardly improved.

Could this possibly be related to the mounting direction, hinge positions, or the alignment of the individual panels? Maybe there are known manufacturing tolerances with PLATSA that could cause this?

I want to understand the issue technically before experimenting too much and possibly causing damage. Does anyone in this forum have experience or specific tips on how to fix the door sticking problem with IKEA PLATSA? Thanks in advance for any help!

This issue can have several causes. With PLATSA, precise adjustment of the hinges is especially important, as the doors rely on specific hooks and screw systems. I recommend the following approach:

- First, check the hinge plates on the side to ensure they are secure and accurately positioned.
- Adjust the hinges using the screws designed for this purpose: this allows you to move the doors left/right, up/down, or in/out.
- Verify whether the cabinet carcass itself is truly level. Sometimes, a slightly tilted cabinet causes doors to stick.
- Another common problem is that the door panels do not sit flush against the carcass—here, slight reworking can help.

Although PLATSA is modular, the components still need to be assembled precisely. Manufacturing tolerances are rare; most sticking issues are due to assembly or minor irregularities during installation.

If you want to proceed with specific adjustments, feel free to get in touch. I can then explain the key screws and adjustment options in detail.

I would like to clarify the best approach here: PLATSA uses clip-on hinges with three adjustment screws. The most important one is this:

- The front screw lets you align the door horizontally, meaning left or right. The top or bottom screw on the hinge adjusts the vertical position—raising or lowering the door slightly.
- The depth is usually adjusted via a small screw on the side of the hinge plate, ensuring the door sits flush with the cabinet frame.

If the door sticks, keep in mind that not only the hinge can be adjusted, but also the floor contacts. Sometimes the bottom or top part of the door rubs against the cabinet side if it is not perfectly straight.

To rule out that the cabinet itself is causing the issue, I recommend first checking the cabinet on a level surface and, if needed, leveling it using a spirit level.

Additionally, it can help to temporarily remove individual parts, such as the door front, and check the exact measurements. A manufacturing defect with a slight bowing or distortion of the door could also be the cause.

Furthermore, check that all mounting brackets on the back panel are properly positioned; improper bracket installation can warp the entire frame.

If you like, please describe the exact spot where the door sticks. This usually helps narrow down the problem even further.

I would check if the door is properly fitted on the hinges. Sometimes removing it briefly and rehanging it helps the latches engage correctly.

Slightly lifting or shifting the door while it’s hanging can also resolve the sticking.

Otherwise, check the alignment of the cabinet body; even a slight tilt is enough to cause the door to stick.
