Hello everyone,
I want to convert my Ikea Besta cabinet into a vanity table and I’m looking for tips and experiences. Specifically, I’m interested in how to modify the BESTA components to achieve a comfortable working height, provide enough storage space for cosmetics, and combine a tabletop with a good mirror. The challenge is that the BESTA is originally designed as a lowboard, so its standard height is quite low for a table.
Maybe someone has already used or repurposed the BESTA series this way? I’m especially curious about ideas for legs or bases that can be attached to the BESTA to raise the height. Are there also recommendations for suitable mirror mounts or for a practical yet stylish design?
Looking forward to your suggestions!

I want to convert my IKEA BESTA cabinet into a vanity table and am looking for tips and experiences.Hey, great idea! The IKEA BESTA is really a versatile piece, you can make almost anything out of it 😄 For your vanity table, I’d recommend attaching the BESTA units to sturdy, height-adjustable table legs. That way, you can set the perfect height individually.
For the mirror, you can either place a stylish floor mirror on the tabletop or, if you prefer a more minimalist and modern look, mount a large wall mirror above it.
Storage is excellent with BESTA since you can use drawers or compartments of different sizes – best to have a mix for brushes, jars, etc.
Important: make sure to use secure fastenings so nothing wobbles, otherwise applying makeup won’t be fun 😉

The challenge as I see it is that the BESTA is actually a lowboard, so the standard height for a table is rather low.I know that feeling all too well! I had a similar plan and simply adapted the frames from an old desk. My advice: combine the BESTA with something that allows you to adjust the height optimally – for example, threaded table legs.
Regarding the mirror: I have a lighted makeup mirror mounted on the wall. This eliminates the worry of the mirror tipping over and provides excellent lighting for applying makeup.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the success of your project. Sometimes these modifications can be challenging, but with the right materials, it can also be fun.

I have an illuminated makeup mirror mounted on the wall. That really makes a difference! A good mirror can instantly make a simple dressing table look more high-end and functional. If you prefer something simple, choose a large plain wall mirror. For a touch of luxury, add lighting—which can be done quite affordably.
Oh, and a tip for the tabletop: a glass surface gives the whole setup a more elegant feel and is easy to clean at the same time!
