ixledeoHello everyone, I currently have an IKEA Besta at home that I would like to modify to make it safe for my toddlers. The main question is: How can I adapt an IKEA Besta to be childproof? Specifically, I am thinking about measures to prevent the furniture from tipping over, rounding off sharp corners, and ensuring children cannot access small parts or hard-to-reach drawers. I would greatly appreciate tips and experiences on how to make this rather angular piece of furniture safe for children—especially which materials, safety devices, and modifications have proven effective. Thank you in advance!

I had similar concerns with my Besta, especially regarding tipping over. My solution: I secured the piece with special wall anchors that are actually designed for household cabinets. That gives me great peace of mind because it prevents accidents. For the edges, I used self-adhesive soft rubber edge protectors. They are inexpensive and really help to prevent injuries. Small parts were secured with child safety locks wherever possible. What exactly is your situation – are you planning to modify many drawers or doors?
Hey, I would definitely recommend securing the furniture to the wall—no child wants that piece of furniture to fall on their little toe 😉. Edge protection tape works great, and since many kids like to peek behind the setup, you can even add a bit of color with the tape! Drawer locks make the whole thing perfect. This way, it’s not only safe but also a bit stylish!
