Hello everyone,
I am currently working on assembling the Ikea Platsa furniture and want to make sure I avoid any unnecessary mistakes before I start. The individual modules offer a lot of flexibility, but this also seems to make the assembly more complicated in some areas compared to simpler furniture.
I am especially interested in any assembly tips that professionals in the community would recommend for the Ikea Platsa furniture. Are there specific procedures or tricks that make the assembly significantly easier? I am thinking about aspects such as preparation, assembling the carcasses, using dowels or screws, the optimal adjustment of the doors, and especially advice on the stability and safety of the furniture piece.
It would also be helpful to get recommendations for tools or aids that really make a difference. Are there common pitfalls that should be avoided? I look forward to your detailed experiences and suggestions so that the assembly goes not only quickly but also as smoothly as possible.

- Back panels: Install the back panels only at the very end to avoid restricting the structure during assembly. This is a very important tip! Often, back panels on IKEA furniture are installed too early, which makes fitting the inner parts more difficult. I would also add that for Platsa units, you should avoid nailing the back panels permanently and instead fix them with screws, as this makes later adjustments easier.
Additionally, when placing several modules side by side, always check measurements and angles with a carpenter’s square or speed square to prevent distortions. Especially in combinations, small inaccuracies have a strong impact on the overall appearance.
How are you planning the load distribution? Will you be storing very large or heavy items in the modules?

I will mainly be storing everyday items, including some books and electronic devices, which have a certain base weight. I’m less likely to store large, heavy furniture pieces. For that reason, I’m especially interested in tips on stability under moderate loads and the best ways to anchor the units securely to the wall.
I assume that, especially with electronics, routing cables behind the modules is important. How do you usually handle this without compromising stability?
Hello lurami,
I can provide detailed advice on stability and cable management for Platsa.
First, regarding stability:
To prevent the modules from tipping or wobbling under moderate load, I recommend the following:
- Always use the supplied wall brackets and fasten them to load-bearing points.
- For drywall, use special cavity anchors or metal expansion anchors.
- Store heavy items preferably in the lower compartments/modules.
- When combining multiple modules, stability can be improved by connecting them on the sides with L-shaped brackets (not always provided by Ikea, but practical).
Regarding cable management:
- Plan cable openings in advance by drilling holes in the back panel with a wire drill bit (spiral), if possible before mounting the back panel.
- Use cable channels or velcro straps to secure cables.
- Avoid pinching cables behind the back panel, as this can cause damage or pressure marks.
- Ideally, the back panel should be slightly offset, or cutouts can be made in the back panel for cable passages.
If you have any further questions about implementation or want photos of my solution, I look forward to your feedback.

Important: Always check the wall first, then buy the appropriate anchors.
Mark the walls evenly and install the anchors.
Always follow the instructions carefully; otherwise, it may become unstable in the end.
Doors can be easily adjusted – no need to worry at the beginning.

I connected the modules that way in my setup. The brackets are a small additional investment, but they provide significant support, especially if you have children at home or frequently rearrange furniture.
Regarding cables: use flexible cable channels that you secure with double-sided tape. This keeps them hidden and allows for easy removal or expansion if needed.
One more tip: first screw all the modules together before attaching them to the wall – it often helps to have someone assist, especially when joining multiple modules.
