Hello everyone, I am planning to move soon and own some Ikea Platsa furniture that I want to transport safely. Since these pieces are modular and partially disassemblable, I am unsure about the best way to load and protect them to avoid any damage. I am especially interested in whether it is advisable to fully disassemble the furniture for safety or if it can also be transported assembled with proper padding. Additionally, it would be helpful to know which materials or securing methods should be used to prevent shifting during transport. I look forward to your tips and experiences!

It’s better to spend a few hours carefully disassembling than to risk scratches on your favorite furniture later.

That’s a good point, but I wonder if there are cases where disassembly could actually cause damage—for example, from repeatedly assembling and disassembling connectors or from improper dismantling?

Could someone share concrete experiences on whether taking apart Platsa furniture is always beneficial, or if the risk of stripped screws or worn dowels might sometimes outweigh the risk of transport damage?

After all, sometimes people have little practical experience and might unintentionally disassemble incorrectly.

This is exactly my concern. I would appreciate hearing from people who have transported their Platsa furniture multiple times. Are there any special tips for protecting dowels and joints during disassembly?

Or is it better to keep the units as stable as possible and transport them with professional padding? How does this affect stability and durability during reassembly?

Regarding the risks of disassembling: The connectors in Platsa furniture are made of plastic and wood, which can wear out with repeated disassembly.

- If screws are tightened and loosened too often, the threads and dowels lose their stability.
- To minimize this, use a cordless drill on a low speed setting and avoid over-tightening the screws.
- It is recommended to check screws and connectors for completeness during disassembly and replace them if necessary.

So, if you plan to transport your furniture multiple times, a systematic approach is worthwhile: disassemble only as much as needed, keep good documentation, and have replacement parts ready if required.

From my experience, the approach depends on the circumstances:

- For small moves or short distances, it’s quite feasible to transport without disassembling the furniture by using thick padding (e.g., furniture blankets plus stretch film).
- For longer transports and tight loading conditions, disassembly is helpful.

It is important to secure the modules well. Ratchet straps combined with foam wedges prevent shifting. Also, it’s true that the fasteners shouldn’t be taken apart too many times.

One last tip: before disassembling, note the positions of the screws or place them in labeled bags – otherwise, reassembly becomes unnecessarily difficult.

A few months ago, I transported a Platsa wardrobe without disassembling it. Using ratchet straps and blankets worked well. It is important to ensure the van has reinforced flooring and edge protection during transport.

I have found it effective to remove doors and drawers before transportation and secure them separately. This protects movable parts, whether the furniture is disassembled or not.
