Hello everyone, I recently assembled an IKEA Hemnes wardrobe and noticed that the doors don’t close flush. Especially along the edges, there are small gaps, which ideally shouldn’t occur if the installation is properly aligned. My question is: how do you align IKEA Hemnes wardrobes so that the doors close perfectly flush without any unsightly gaps? What steps are particularly important, and are there any special techniques or tricks for adjusting the door hinges beyond the standard instructions? I’ve already tried adjusting the hinge screws, but I’m still not fully satisfied. I’d appreciate any tips!

Hello, I can completely understand how frustrating it is when doors don’t close properly. I have assembled several Hemnes wardrobes myself and often had to make adjustments. It’s important to take your time when aligning them and not give up too quickly. I have also encountered hinges that were slightly warped, which couldn’t be fixed by simple readjustment.

To adjust the doors, you turn the screws on the hinges: usually there are side screws for horizontal positioning, vertical screws for height, and one for depth. If the doors seem uneven, it’s worth checking all the hinges and possibly loosening them slightly to realign the doors. Sometimes it also helps to place the wardrobe on a level surface while adjusting. I hope this helps a bit! If you like, I can explain in more detail.

For precise alignment of the IKEA Hemnes cabinet doors, I recommend the following approach:

- First, ensure that the cabinet itself is placed on a perfectly level and horizontal surface, as otherwise the doors may warp permanently.
- Next, distinguish the hinges: Hemnes models typically have three adjustment options – height, depth, and lateral (horizontal).
- Height is adjusted via the vertical screws on the hinge to bring the door to eye level.
- Depth is set using the screw that regulates the distance to the cabinet carcass, which is important for the doors to close flush with the front.
- The lateral screw allows shifting the door left or right and is used to align the door edges precisely.

Tip: Turn screws with moderate force to avoid damaging the material; if necessary, check the adjustment multiple times and make slow, gradual changes.

Adjusting door hinges on Hemnes correctly: 1. Height at the top/attached hinge; 2. Depth – so the door sits flush; 3. Side adjustment to reduce gaps.

Then place the wardrobe on a level floor. It should fit properly this way.

It is advisable to proceed methodically from the beginning. If the doors do not close flush, it might be due to slightly warped doors or hinges that are not properly fitted.

This is a very important point. I recommend loosening the hinges a little, aligning the door, and then tightening the screws again. Check if the cabinet is truly level, for example with a spirit level.

It is also advisable to open and close the doors multiple times while adjusting—small misalignments often become more noticeable this way. If the door is warped, removing it briefly to make slight adjustments may help, or in more severe cases, contacting IKEA customer service.

In addition to the mentioned tips: It is important to note that the hinges on Hemnes cabinet doors are preset at the factory, which often does not suit every floor or wall installation. Slight adjustments are therefore normal.

Furthermore, it is helpful to precisely align the doors before fully tightening the screws, then tighten the screws in the correct order:
- First, adjust the height,
- then the depth,
- and finally the lateral position.

This helps prevent one adjustment from undoing the previous one.
