KinloHello everyone,
I am currently planning to build a combination with removable compartments using Ikea Besta units and have some practical questions. I would appreciate any experiences and tips.
My goal is to create a stable yet flexible system where I can easily remove and reinsert individual compartments at any time. It is important to me that the compartments are not only visually well integrated but also securely fixed mechanically.
Does anyone here have experience with how to best implement this using the standard Besta elements? Which shelves and fronts are suitable for this? Are there any specific installation tips to prevent the compartments from wobbling or coming loose unintentionally?
I am also open to suggestions for additional modules or accessories that make removal easier, such as handle strips or special locks.
Thanks in advance for your support!

One important tip: use the shelves with metal suspension brackets—they hold up well and are still easy to remove.
For the fronts, I recommend the doors with a push-to-open mechanism – no more fiddling with handles!
Also, if you need more stability, go for the metal frame, which has recently become available for Besta.
A small side tip: sticking some felt tape under the compartments prevents annoying squeaking. 😉

They give the whole structure great support.
And another tip: if you don’t want the compartments to be too deep in certain areas, fabric drawer inserts are perfect. They also make it easier to use the removable compartments when you need to transport them.
This project is a lot of fun, good luck with it!

Does anyone here have experience with the best way to implement this using standard Besta components? Use shelves with metal rails.
Push-to-open fronts.
Add corner brackets.
This way, you get a stable and flexible solution.
