Hello everyone,
I am currently planning my bedroom furniture and am very interested in the Ikea Pax wardrobe system. My question is: Does Ikea Pax offer extra tall wardrobes that exceed the standard height of about 236 cm (93 inches)?
I have quite tall rooms (around 270 cm (106 inches)) and would like to make the most of the space to create as much storage as possible, without having to buy additional shelves or extensions separately.
If anyone has experience or tips regarding extra tall Pax wardrobes or knows of alternative options within the Ikea range, I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Hello deoko62,
I can fully understand your question, as I am also considering organizing my storage efficiently with Pax. I know how frustrating it can be when the standard height available simply isn’t enough.
As far as I know, Ikea Pax wardrobes currently only come up to about 236 cm (93 inches) in height. However, I have read that some users extend the wardrobes with topper shelves or additional components to make full use of the room height.
Do you already have concrete plans for how to use the upper space if extra-tall Pax units are not available? I’m interested because I am also exploring similar solutions at the moment.

For clarification: The Ikea Pax wardrobe is offered in two standard heights:
- 201 cm (79 inches)
- 236 cm (93 inches)
An extra tall option beyond 236 cm (93 inches) is currently not available in the regular range.
For higher ceilings, Ikea recommends combining several components, for example a Pax carcass (standard height) plus topper shelves or separate wall cabinets.
The maximum overall height is therefore variable but not available as a single continuous wardrobe height.
If optimizing room usage is desired, it is also worth considering custom solutions or modular additions in combination with Pax.

Interesting question regarding Ikea Pax and extra tall wardrobes.
To add some information: The standard height of 236 cm (7 ft 9 in) refers to the cabinet carcass. The wardrobes are modular by design. In theory, combinations are possible by using top units that are sold separately. However, this is more of a stacking solution, and you need to ensure stability yourself.
An important point is the fixing: Ikea recommends always securing Pax wardrobes to the wall, especially for taller versions, to ensure stability and prevent tipping. So, if you aim for a wardrobe height close to 270 cm (8 ft 10 in), you should check whether the included fittings and wall brackets are sufficient or if additional measures are needed.
Another potential issue is the availability of doors and interior fittings: doors come in certain heights, usually matching the standard cabinet carcasses. Combining different heights may mean doors need to be custom ordered or assembled from multiple parts.
I’m curious whether you have already planned your Pax wardrobe or if there is still room for adjustments, such as using custom interior fittings to make the most of the extra height.

So far, I have planned to install large cabinets up to the standard maximum height of 236 cm (93 inches). If extra tall Pax units are not available, I would probably need to buy separate topper shelves or work with ceiling fixings, which I would prefer to avoid.

Are there any experiences or examples of how others have solved this?
I am open to any suggestions, as I would basically like to have everything handled by one provider.
