Hello everyone,

I have an older KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA that I have really appreciated over the years. Now I would like to get replacement doors for this series, as some of the doors show slight signs of wear or are damaged. My question is: Are replacement doors for the old KALLAX series still available in the current IKEA range? Or has IKEA completely discontinued the doors, meaning one has to look for alternative solutions?

It is important to me that the dimensions and mounting points match exactly, as I do not want to replace the entire shelving unit, just the doors. Thank you in advance for your help and experience!

As far as I know, IKEA currently does not offer replacement doors for the old KALLAX shelving units anymore. Only the modular units without doors or newer versions are available. It’s best to inquire directly at the IKEA online store or the retail location.

I can provide a bit more information since I recently dealt with this exact topic. IKEA has actually discontinued the doors for the older KALLAX series from their current product range – this applies to both wooden and plastic doors that were previously available for KALLAX.

The reason is straightforward: KALLAX was technically redesigned, and its successor was launched with altered door and mounting dimensions. As a result, the doors are no longer compatible and are no longer officially available as replacement parts.

If you want to keep the original dimensions and fittings, your only options are the secondhand market or third-party suppliers specializing in spare parts. Although not official, I’ve read that some users repurpose doors from the "Eket" series since these have similar dimensions, but due to age differences, this requires some craftsmanship to make adjustments.

Thank you, that sounds plausible. I knew the series has had some updates over time, but it seems the original doors are no longer available.

What about alternative doors? Are there manufacturers that produce KALLAX-compatible doors? Or is the secondhand market really the only viable option? And how exactly do the dimensions of the doors from the old and new KALLAX series differ?

If anyone has detailed technical data or explanations on this, I would be very grateful.

I can confirm and add to these statements. The old KALLAX series used doors measuring approximately 33 x 33 cm (13 x 13 inches), which relied on a special hanging system. The current KALLAX doors are larger and feature a modified hinge mechanism, making them incompatible.

Alternatively, third-party suppliers in the furniture accessories sector sometimes offer so-called "universal doors" that can be cut and adjusted. However, this requires precise knowledge of the shelf drill holes and possibly additional modifications, which may not be ideal for everyone.

If authenticity is important, the secondhand market, such as eBay or classified ads, is the only reliable source. My recommendation: take exact measurements beforehand to avoid misunderstandings.

Another option is to explore IKEA DIY communities. Some people build their own doors from wooden panels with suitable fittings. This can be very customized but requires craftsmanship skills.

Official replacement doors for the old KALLAX are no longer available, that is correct. It’s better to make your own doors, which often costs less and is more flexible.

Alternatively, try searching online for clearance stock and small parts. Prices vary widely.
