Hello everyone, I am looking for effective ways to make my Ikea Brimnes furniture more stable. Specifically, I’m referring to the dressers and cabinets from the Brimnes series, which sometimes feel a bit wobbly, especially when filled with clothes or other items. Are there any proven tips or tricks to stabilize this furniture line without much effort or expensive additional parts? It would also be helpful to know if reinforcing the back panels is possible or if adding extra screws in certain places makes a difference. I look forward to your experiences and advice!

Hello Jaroslav5, I completely understand your concern. The Brimnes is not the most robust piece of furniture in terms of stability, but with a few targeted measures, you can significantly improve it. Basically, when assembling, you should ensure very precise and tight connections—tighten screws well without damaging the material. For the back panels, I recommend reinforcing them with stronger OSB boards or thin plywood behind the original back panel. This greatly enhances stability and prevents the frame from twisting.

Additionally, you can secure the connection between the side panels and the top cover panel with metal brackets. Make sure to place the brackets as much as possible on the inside to avoid affecting the appearance. For the drawers or doors, it can help to secure the guides and hinges again with screws of a larger diameter if the original screws become loose or if the material is too soft.

I’m interested to know: Is your Brimnes an older model, or did you assemble it yourself? Some tend to be weaker, especially older versions or if the assembly wasn’t done quite precisely.

Simply attach additional brackets at the corners and reinforce the back panel with a thin plywood sheet. This stabilizes quickly and effectively.

I would also recommend retightening all screws after some time – this can significantly reduce any loose spots.

To enhance the stability of the Ikea Brimnes series, the following practical and proven measures are recommended:

- Reinforce the back panel by replacing it or adding a sturdier wooden board (e.g., plywood or multiplex) behind the original back panel
- Use metal brackets at the joints between the side panels and the top panel to increase rigidity
- Replace the original screws if necessary with longer or thicker screws with appropriate threading and pre-drilling
- Secure the drawer slides and hinges by tightening them and reinforcing if needed

Careful assembly and the use of appropriate tools are essential, as the particleboard furniture panels can be easily damaged. These measures can be implemented without advanced technical skills and significantly improve the stability.

Hello everyone, I think Brimnes does have its charm, but a bit of wobbling somehow comes with it 😅. Jokes aside, what really worked for me was a simple solution: adding metal brackets on the inner sides, attaching the back panel with a thin wooden board, and securing everything firmly with screws. This makes the unit almost completely stable. And hey, it costs almost nothing while making a big difference. Sometimes, it's the little things that make all the difference.
