I already have several Pax wardrobe modules at home, but I often run into limits when it comes to using the space efficiently. The shelves and hanging rods are great, but I frequently feel like I’m not making the most of the available space—especially in the deeper compartments.
It’s important to me that the solutions are practical, meaning not just cramming things in, but also allowing for easy organization and access. Does anyone have tips for creating extra storage, for example with smart organizers, custom inserts, or special hanging systems? Ideas for better utilizing the space below the hanging rod would also be very welcome.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Are there smart tricks to get more storage space in the Pax?I know the feeling when the wardrobe just doesn’t offer enough space. I experienced the same frustration because you constantly have to throw things away or rearrange everything differently.
One tip that worked wonders for me was customizing the height of the shelves and, instead of just regular shelves, also installing wire baskets and narrow drawers. This way, you can store small items like underwear or cloths much better and keep everything more organized.
Sometimes it also helps to use Z-shaped pull-out hanging systems in the deep sections. These are especially practical for shoes or bags. Of course, it’s not the cheapest option, but in my opinion, the extra investment is worth it.

Also, I’ve really come to love small clip-on rails for belts and jewelry that you can attach to the inside of the doors. They save visual space and help you find things faster.
And don’t worry, the Pax system is actually quite flexible – there’s often more room inside than you’d expect! 😉
Regarding your question about increasing storage space in the Pax, Lucarsten, there are indeed some principles to consider:
- Create zones: Sort your clothes and accessories by type and frequency of use, and arrange them into clearly defined areas. Items you need easy access to should be stored separately from those used less often.
- Use the doors: Various additional solutions are possible here, such as hook rails for scarves, bags, or belts.
- Flexible interior fittings: As DUUS32 already mentioned, it is helpful to be able to adjust the height of the shelves.
- Under the hanging rod: A proven trick is to install a second, lower rod section, for example for shirts or skirts. Alternatively, you can place lightweight boxes and drawers on the floor—ideally with casters to make pulling them out easier.
- Transparent boxes: This helps maintain an overview of your items.
I hope this helps! If you have specific measurements or room data, I can give you more targeted recommendations.

Regarding your question about increasing storage space in the Pax system, Lucarsten, there are indeed some principles to keep in mind:I would like to add that the stability of shelves in deeper cabinets is often underestimated. A common mistake is installing them without additional reinforcement, which can lead to problems over time.
Furthermore, I recommend planning the storage space using so-called "drawer containers" that can be modularly slid into the cabinet. This maintains flexibility and allows easy use of different levels.
For those with some DIY skills, it’s worth considering retrofitting shelves with side supports or pull-out shelving. While not original Ikea components, these solutions greatly help in fully utilizing the cabinet’s depth.
