Hello everyone,
I’d like to ask if you have also noticed that the KALLAX shelves from IKEA develop visible scratches or marks surprisingly quickly at home?
I’ve observed that after a relatively short time of use—and I’m not talking about particularly rough handling—the white surface on some edges and areas shows unsightly signs. I wonder if the material is simply very sensitive or if there are special care or protection recommendations that might help.
How about your experience? Have you encountered something similar or perhaps have tips on how to better protect the surface?
I’m really looking forward to your opinions and experiences!

I wonder if the material is simply very sensitiveThis is an important question, and I want to point out that many manufacturers deliberately use melamine-coated particle boards to keep costs low.
However, it is equally important to understand the limitations of the material: its resistance to scratches is naturally limited.
What I’m curious about: How severe are the scratches on your surfaces? Are they just minor superficial marks, or are there deeper ones that actually damage the material?
Depending on the depth, there are quite different repair or protection methods. For more significant damage, I recommend using furniture repair kits available on the market.
Taking preventative measures like protective strips can be useful, but they do not replace proper care and careful handling.

How deep are the scratches you have?In my case, they are mostly surface scratches that can be disguised with a bit of furniture polish. They haven’t been very deep so far, but of course everyone perceives this differently.

Attach furniture edge trims made of plastic or leatherGood tip! I’m also considering adding something like that, maybe even a bit more colorful to give the KALLAX a unique touch.
You could see it as a small design possibility, not just protection. 🙂
