I would like to start a discussion on the topic: “How can IKEA Brimnes cabinets be transported more easily?”

The challenge is that Brimnes cabinets are quite bulky and heavy, which can be especially problematic when transporting them from the IKEA store to your home or during a move. I have heard that the cabinets can be fully disassembled, but even then, some larger parts remain quite cumbersome and heavy. I am also wondering if there are practical aids, such as special transport handles, wheels, or grips, that make carrying or rolling them easier.

I am interested in both technical tips and practical advice based on experience. What steps have you taken to make transporting Brimnes cabinets easier? Are there any tricks that simplify handling without damaging the furniture? An important aspect for me is also how to best protect and organize the individual parts when transporting them disassembled. Thank you in advance for your advice!

Basically, it is advisable to completely disassemble the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe to make transporting the individual parts easier. I recommend systematically labeling all screws and connectors beforehand and storing them in a clearly marked bag. This helps prevent losing important small components.

For the actual transport, the following tips are useful:
- Lay large parts such as side panels and back panels flat on a hand truck or transport pallet.
- Use blankets or bubble wrap to protect against scratches.
- When carrying, always make sure to distribute the weight evenly, preferably with two people.

In my experience, it is also helpful to pack and transport the wardrobe doors separately if they can be removed. This makes handling significantly easier.

First of all, thanks for the detailed question!

I would add that when dealing with Brimnes cabinets, it’s important to estimate the weight of each individual part in advance and carefully plan who will help with the transport. I have often seen attempts to carry too many parts at once, which creates unnecessary risks for both the back and the furniture.

I can only confirm this. If you don’t have a hand truck, sturdy dolly boards or homemade carrying aids with wheels can also help.

Additionally, using furniture covers or at least large securing straps can be considered to keep individual parts together during transport. This especially helps during moves or longer distances, making handling easier and preventing slipping.

Finally: good preparation and time management almost always pay off. Stress during transport often leads to mistakes that can be avoided by staying calm.

I’m approaching this from a somewhat critical perspective. Sure, most people recommend completely disassembling and moving the pieces on hand trucks, but honestly: Brimnes isn’t lightweight, and the effort required for disassembly plus reassembly shouldn’t be underestimated.

Maybe the better question is: Do you really have to take the wardrobe apart, or are there smarter ways to transport it whole, or at least in fewer pieces?

Exactly. Sometimes you spend so much time on dismantling that it might be more efficient to organize the transport with helpers and proper carrying straps instead.

I would even suggest renting or borrowing professional furniture dollies designed specifically for heavy and bulky furniture. Yes, it costs something, but it saves a huge amount of physical effort.

Also: Often a well-coordinated team of helpers is the key—not just the tools.
